Cumulative update December 2020 - KB4592438 Failed to install

I am trying to install KB4592438 for Windows 10 20H2. The patch is downloaded without any issue. But the installation fails and the screen starts showing - Undoing changes Don't turn off your computer. The error message is - Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x80070003).

    Raju,

    I was thinking about this route myself but it is a destructive method  - in the Chose what to keep dialog, the 'keep personal files and apps' (and keep personal files only' are grayed out, only 'Nothing' ie destructive method is possible. The same if I boot from the installation media. So it seems that you cannot perform a non-destructive upgrade if the installed version and the installation media's version are identical.

    I also tried with the equivalent offline installer (windows10.0-kb4592438-x64_b6914251264f8f973c3f82f99b894935f33c38e6.msu). It fails too - different error (0x8024200b) but probably related. 

    Unless someone has a different idea, I'll wait until next month for a new cumulative update (or a re-release as it seems several people have encountered the same issue). While not the first time I've encountered issues with Windows updates, it is the first where none of the otherwise proven troubleshooting measures seem to work.

    I have the same issue. Followed all of the above steps - december SSU was already installed

    C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

    Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

    Beginning verification phase of system scan.

    Verification 100% complete.

    Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

    Version: 10.0.19041.572

    Image Version: 10.0.19042.630

    [===========================84.9%=================         ]

    [===========================86.1%=================         ]

    [===========================87.3%==================        ]

    [===========================88.7%===================       ]

    [===========================89.9%====================      ]

    [===========================91.1%====================      ]

    Same result - the installation fails with error 0x80070003

    Exactly the same for me.

    last try,  Create system restore point  for security.

    .if you have windows 10 20h2 iso file , then exact file, then run setup.exe with admin rights, follow on-screen instructions
