Cumulative update December 2020 - KB4592438 Failed to install

I am trying to install KB4592438 for Windows 10 20H2. The patch is downloaded without any issue. But the installation fails and the screen starts showing - Undoing changes Don't turn off your computer. The error message is - Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x80070003).

    hey guys, I don't know what happened to my PC, but it's like a miracle! I had the same problem, nothing working, not able to update, in my HP Laptop. I kinda made my laptop to self-repair - like my laptop start full disk repair. I was soo worried that I was about to die! as I thought my laptop would start installing fresh windows, but, yesterday I got a confirmation saying from my laptop, " your PC had update errors so we directly installed the latest version 'windows 10 OS build 19042.685" congratulations! " 

    I couldn't believe it with my own eyes! now I am with 19042.685. Praise GOD!!!!!!

    You can add me to the list. Been trying to install this update without any luck for the past few weeks. Manual install and all the other steps I've seen don't seem to work. I really don't wanna reinstall Windows. I'm hoping the next cumulative update works.

    Nope. It is a Win 10 installed laptop as factory default. It also happens with Surface Pro 7, which comes with Win 10 installed, and it is a Microsoft product :D.

    I understand, I didn't want to do the re-install either as it is almost 1 week that I'm working onback ups and reinstallating stuffs and I'm not done with it yet. :-(

    Just a question though, were you working on an upgraded Win10 from a previous version (like Win7, win8, etc) ?

    I'm asking because it was my case and while looking at other forums, it was also the case for a lot of peeps that are experiencing the same issue. I wonder if this upgrade might be incompatible with such legacy installation? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Glad to hear that it worked for you. Nothing has changed for me, sadly. Still getting stuck at 7% and cancelling the installation. I will wait for the new update to roll out. I cannot do the re-install Windows overkill as I have so many things to do and cannot spare a day for that.

    I can understand most of the errors on my other laptops, but I cannot understand why it cannot update a Microsoft Surface with anything except MS Office, Figma, and Cisco Web Server on it.

    I have seriously started checking Apple prices. I will switch my workstation to Apple and keep a separate gaming rig for my Steam stuff.
