Repeated crashes and BSOD on ASUS TUF A15

Hello,

Several months ago I bought an gaming laptop, an Asus TUF A15 FA506IV with Windows 10 installed. Everything was fine in the first weeks, but then my computer started to crash and get BSOD randomly, except when I'm playing or using it intensively, which is weird.

I've tried everything, ranging from reinstalling drivers, to a complete reset and windows install.

I've checked RAM, disk and system files integrity, tried multiple repair tools, both Microsoft and unofficial, multiple times, installed every single driver based on Windows Update recommendations/constructor website, even used driver verifier, but nothing has changed since.

The only thing that sometimes changes is the error message of the bluescreen, when there's one. Often the screen only goes completly black, and nothing else happens.

Oh, and I can't show any memory/crash dump since nothing is generated.

Is there anything else to do, or is my computer doomed to be returned to the vendor ?

OS : Windows 10 Family 10.0.19042

Product : Asus TUF A15 FA506IV

Memory : 16GB

GPU : NVidia RTX 2060 GDDR6 6GB

CPU : Ryzen 4800H with Radeon Graphics, 2900Mhz, 8 cores, 16 virtual cores

Storage : 500GB SSD Kingston OM8PCP3512F-AB

    Had to set mine to 98%, but been over a week and not a single pBSoD yet, so that's something.

    Nevertheless, considering how much I spent on this device, its primary selling point for me was the CPU juice, so to say I'm disappointed at the processing power I'm seeing would be an understatement.

    Lesson learned, no more AMD or Asus.

    Same issues here, only on an Asus TUF A17 FA706IU (same CPU). Crashes, G/BSOD, freezing on sleep, random reboots w/o BSOD, etc.

    And I've tried much of what everybody here as tried:

    • Clean install of Win10 and Win11 (many times!)
    • Using NVIDIA and AMD drivers as opposed to Asus-provided drivers
    • Swapped out RAM and M.2 drives 3x (meaning different RAM and M.2 drives)
    • Ran all the usual diag. software and stress-tests (no definitive results)
    • And so much more...

    I've yet to try Fadjri Aladin's solution, which a goodly number of folks on this thread have endorsed--I will try soon.

    Clearly, Asus is at fault here. We could, of course, put the onus on AMD, but it's on Asus to assure the stability of their builds.

    I've been in IT (hardware side) since the mid-late 80's and have built many custom PCs over the years and serviced 100's PCs as well. This laptop is the buggiest and most troublesome computer I've ever owned and tops the list of any I've worked over the last 30+ years. That's saying something. Most of the custom gaming rigs I've put together (for myself and my clients) have been built around Asus mobos. So I'm a fan. This machine has significantly dampened my enthusiasm for all things Asus. Sad...

    I'll report back on how it goes with Fadjri Aladin's work-a-round.

    I had a lot of problems with BSOD that occurred during low power times like using YouTube after coming out of sleep.

    I think my problem isn't related to my ASUS TUF Dash specifically so I looked up How to Fix a Video TDR Failure BSOD Error in Windows 10.

    The three things I did that seemed to have fixed or at least improved the problem were

    Use System Files Utility Checker to Fix System Files **** type sfc /scannow and press Enter. (it found corrupted files)

    Turn Link State Power Management Off

    You can see Link State Power Managementin the Power Options of your system’s Control Panel. 

    Turn off Sleep, let the PC go directly to hibernate (this was suggested by a random guy somewhere. He state the hibernate was more more stable and less buggy than sleep in Windows10)

    These three things made my system a lot more stable although I will have to wait a few weeks to really be confident the problem is gone.

    I haven't tried the 99% max processor method because my issues all occur during low processor states.

    I would guess there is some issue with how the GPU is getting power from the motherboard during low power states.

    Wakawakawa, thanks for replying! I've run sfc and DISM CheckHealth, ScanHealth and RestoreHealth. Also, I always set LSPM to off on a new system install. In terms of Sleep vs Hibernate, my experience is opposite from what your random guy has suggested: Sleep has always seemed the more stable/reliable choice over Hibernate. Though I'm pretty old school and Hibernate may have improved over the last several years. Guess I could re-enable it and try.... That said, this appears to me as a poorly executed video subsystem issue; some combo of the dual video subsystems (integrated AMD Radeon and NVIDIA dedicated GPU), drivers and/or hardware interrupts messed up. I wish I could completely turn off the AMD Radeon integrated graphics in the BIOS, that would be a great diagnostic tool. Sigh...
