WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    If it is spyware then why doesn't WaaS scan my SSD like it does my HDD drives? The SSD on this system has 68 gigs of files yet I don't see WaaS scanning this drive or the D: drive. It only runs for a few seconds. It started to run on Friday on the HDD of my studio system reading files in the WinSxS folder. I just did a quick restart and it did not run again. Let's see what happens tomorrow on the scheduled run. I'm going to monitor run times on every system and take note of the files it reads. I'm afraid this issue is simply not going away. It's either a bug that Microsoft can't fix or it's intended behavior that will continue to grind away at our drives every Sunday. We'll see if 21H1 brings any relief but I don't have much faith.

    This morning my normal scheduled run of 8 mins duration after 21H1 update installed by MS, perhaps too early to tell but we shall see what follows. Assume there may be another run in day or two as yesterday had the 'update'. Noticed in the past that it appears to have an unscheduled run following an update. Hard to follow as I have found things get updated without going thru' WUD's.

    my personal advice for everything that has this behavior, just let your PC run for some hours every week, and let every programm do its updates, especially with slow internet and slow harddrives, this is essantial.

    Same issue. Laptop is not two weeks old. I have never seen the medic service before and all of a sudden, it's at 100%. Then, just the ubiquitous System is at 90%.
