WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    Selecting Windows Update Cleanup from disk cleanup would not normally cause problems, or cause a particular update to fail. I use that option of disk cleanup every month when I run disk cleanup prior to the regular 2nd Tuesday of the month MS update. On my HDD system, using Windows Update Cleanup does take a very long time to complete.

    I don't usually select Windows Update Cleanup until I know the next major version update is coming. But because boot-up is getting slower and slower (now 13.5 mins) I decided to see if that helped. The cleanup itself took about 40 mins compared to the usual 3 - 5 when I run it after a weekly backup. But I had never seen WaasMedic running before, so I assumed it was either the failed Flash removal updates or the Windows Update Cleanup that drove it. It kept me from reasonable response times for about 1.75 hours. Today's boot was back to about the 14 - 15 mins before I could do anything with a reasonable response time. Interesting to watch the desktop icons paint in their white rectangle place holders one-by-one at the rate of one per second. :^{

    I noticed you said you are running 20H2 19042.844. The .844 update was a "preview" cumulative update first released on Feb 24, 2021. Just out of curiosity, when was that particular update KB4601382 (OS Builds 19041.844 and 19042.844) Preview actually installed on your system? I don't know, but it is possible that waasmedic is invoked by/with/before/after a successful update. If KB4601382 was installed today (per your update history info) around the same time you were having system performance problems caused by waasmedic agent, then that update might also be the cause.

    I am guessing that one reason no MS tech resource has responded to this thread is that the original poster categorized it in "windows settings" subtopic, instead of a subtopic of windows update. It may be that "windows settings" does not get that much traffic and moderation. I have asked for MS responses to this thread in some other topic categories, but no luck so far.

    On my system with HDD drive, running disk cleanup with the "windows update cleanup" option makes disk cleanup run for about 40 minutes, also. Much longer than omitting that option. On a second system with SSD drive, windows update cleanup makes disk cleanup run longer, but only a fraction of the time as required on my HDD drive system.

    Being bit of nerd, daily routine involves checking for WUD's, System Restore & Anti-Virus from AV App. Since first had issues, have had 5 WUD errors, 2 Health Tools updates and 4 Automatic Restore Points Created notated "Windows Module Installer", 3 of the latter dated same as the WUD's error occurring. Bit more than coincidence ? Looks as though perhaps MS has got itself in bit of a tangle somewhere.
