WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    Anyway some big updates rolled out today at least for version 20-04. Seems like a smaller update for 20H2. Let's hope there is a fix for the Waas mess.

    BenCarver1,

    Have you tried "This PC->" right-click the system drive, select "Properties->Tools" tab, click the "Optmize" button and then you can"Change Settings" to select which drives get "optimized", and on what schedule or turn it off altogether.  That might at least solve the defrag problem.

    April update received this morning (KB5001330) - installed OK. MS list I believe 4 major items that have been updated in this issue. On their update Guide page (https://msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide/en-us), applying filters for 2004 between 10th March (day after March patch Tuesday) to April patch Tuesday, first page brings up results 15 out of 2743 - started to scroll down but gave up after a few - all applied to KB5001330 so who knows if our problem has been resolved - doubt it. See what happens tomorrow - should be non task scheduler run.

    BenCarver1 - Both SSD & HD store data in same manner, SSD faster in read & write. If you never add or modify anything, should not need to defrag. Data is stored in blocks per file etc. If you then modify that file it will now require more disc space than before so the overflow will be stored in another block and each time file grows to larger than allocated block. Hence, over a period of time each file could be spread over a number of blocks therefore the need to defrag & put each file into continuous blocks for faster access. I have been on various Windows Versions since Windows 93 & have always had it turned off, every now & then, check state & if it says 'OK' (with me normally 6-7%), leave as is. Perhaps every 12-18 months may do a manual run which may take just under an hour but I am in control so do it in a slack period. Never had the occasion when checking said I need to do it. By turning on scheduled defrag, it will run when it wants to - never mind what user is doing - same with most of Windows processes.
