WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    MarcHoppe - As with a lot of things, MS seems to have two parallel systems. There is the 7 day scheduled run but it appears it runs at unscheduled times a day or two after you receive & install any update. March I received the monthly release on 11th March (day late for some reason (UK)). Scheduled run would have been on 14th March but had an out of schedule run on 12th with scheduled run on 14th. Likewise, on 9th April am, had a display adaptor driver come thru. Next day on 10th it ran and again on 11th to schedule. Same seems to happen with WUD's. This auto runs every day at boot on condition last boot was more than 12 hours previous so if I have a late evening boot, it will run then. Scheduled Tasks Windows update runs for me every day at 4.49 pm to catch anything that has not been picked up by main run, computer not been turned off for an extended period for instance meaning the boot run not occurred.

    If you go into task scheduler you will see WaasMedic task under the windows dropdown. First off MS, what does "Helps recover update-related services to the supported configuration." mean?

    For a windows task that cripples my $2000 machine daily, I think that is a far from sufficient explanation... So I'll try to provide my own.

    My solution to this problem is to disable the task entirely, as seems to be the fix with alot of these windows application hangs.. I will update later on how I did so because its telling me I need escalated privilege's. 

    I say to disable this because I had a previous issue where my computer would not under any circumstance go to sleep on its own, if no input was received for precisely 8 minutes, the system PID4 task would skyrocket my CPU usage, then hang indefinitely. Sometimes moving the mouse would release it, other times it would go until I manually put it to sleep to terminate the task. Among a bunch of other bugs I just contributed to my laptop manufactures negligence.

    So a bit of background here, I have an SSD. The question then arises, why are these tasks below, not only installed but enabled by default on devices with SSDs?

    > DiskDiagnostic, DiskCleanup, Chkdsk, DEFRAG (my gremlin), etc.

    Someone correct me if I'm wrong but SSDs basically store data as fragmented chunks...

    So for my case Defrag was starting up, then hanging indefinitely as it tried to defrag purposely fragmented data?

    This made my new computer beyond buggy and alot of times unusable , wouldn't go to sleep, spool my fans to 20k RPM, etc, etc, etc. All the while eating away at the durability of my SSD with asinine read/writes. No help desk could ever tell me why either.

    I only found this by using a few of the sysinternals tools, something I never see mentioned by the MS help peoples. That problem I'd been dealing with for months has been gone since the moment I disabled those tasks. 

    Now it looks like WaasMedic will be the next one disabled as 1700 other people have this same problem and the only solution seems to be more updates, or clean boot.

    I think Waas has always run periodically and we just never noticed since it only ran for a short time. It's only since it began taking a long time and using a lot of disk activity did I even notice it....
