WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    I did not notice waasmedic running until early this year and that's when I came here and found many other people are having the same issue. I normally keep a pretty close eye on disk activity. Has anyone applied Optional Update KB 5000842 yet ? I have not and will wait for Second Tuesday roll out to see what happens. So far this morning on two different systems waasmedic has not run so this is not a system specific issue this is something either planned by M$ or they are simply unable to fix the problem they caused starting early this year.

    MarcHoppe - I'm still on 2004 - not been offered update yet - description contains a dirty word for me -'Preview'. When Previews are available, I have been getting an Error in WUD's with no description of what update is stuck. a reboot will then automatically download & install  a preview with once again no notification of what is being pushed down, Sometimes a manual will find something but only with a choice when you install - not offered as option. Anything other than patch Tuesday downloads creating error except for March when these arrived a day late & auto installed.

    Description of KB5000842 lists about 40 'Issues addressed' but with a few 'Known Issues' - why release if there are 'Known Issues'? - MS digging their own hole which now seems too deep to climb out of, we are poor innocent people suffering. Perhaps though we are not innocent if we are daft enough to have a Windows computer.

    Ok I see that WaasMedic is scheduled to run again on April 11th and every seven days after that. If it's running more frequently than that something is definitely wrong. I tried to disable the task on two systems but even an Admin account does not have privilege. I guess the only solution for now is to manually shut it down on the scheduled dates or whenever it runs if it's affecting performance.

    Newer tried stopping WASMEDIC if running. Did have an issue on an old Laptop running 8.1 12 months or so ago it was running some schedule maintenance/clean up process just went on & on for over an hour. Thought I would be clever & stop process, worked. Rebooted and same process started up again so could only leave until it completed, touch wood - never happened again - does this happen with WAASMEDIC - if stopped is this likewise, only a temporary delay, starts up again on a reboot ?
