WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    i have also been having this issue, most recently its been a system app called system.exe(defrag) it has to do with maintenance being done automatically by the system. i figured out there are three things doing this and if you go into task manager and go to services and open services you can go down the list till you find the windows search service and right click and go to properties and end task and disable it also do the same with superfetch and  sysmain. or if you prefer on your keyboard press windows key type command prompt then select run as admin, click yes to allow. the command prompt will display enter command net.exe stop "windows search" this will stop the system program from running. you can do the same with the other two system programs and see if that fixes your problem. hope this helps good luck.

    Hi!

    Just to let everyone know that for me this has gone away. I decided not to fight it and go with the flow.  I used taskmaster to shut down other things, but did not shut down Waas.  I rebooted and turned everything else off and did not load anything (except I did check drivers and did 20 driver updates) .... and I just let Waas do its 100% disk thing(s).   I shut down and rebooted three times to let that happen.  On the third reboot, it vanished!  Was nowhere to be seen.  Now I've rebooted another five times over the last couple of days, and it has not come back.  
    Hope it is as easy as this for everyone else!

    SOLVED

    My Windows was grinding to a halt with my Drives at 100% not allowing other apps to work properly for 15-45 minutes after starting th PC. The solution I found bypasses the running of WaasMedic and should still be run by you manually, periodically to correct updates etc., but atleast you can choose to do this yourself after going home for the day, out to lunch or off to bed.

    The default Services setting for Startup of the Windows Update Medic Service (WaasMedicSvc) Service is DEFAULT(3) which still allows the System to start the service when needed. By changing this value in the Registry to DISABLE(4) the Service should no longer be activated.

    This is a much needed service and still needs to be run to fix the constant issues with previous Updates so be sure to manually run this service at your convenience.

    Why doesn't Microsoft respond to this problem.

    My system is way to slow now, 100% disk utilization

    I killed the process after ejecting and disconnecting my external HDD with no noticeable ill effects.  I then reconnected the HDD and there no problem so far (knock on wood).

    BTW, I have my system set up so that it only defrags C drive.  And have had sysmain disabled since it was called superfetch.
