WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    @MichelIrons - the Edge browser (in common with most browsers), has its own updater process running in the background, so is separate from WU system updates. APP updates use some Store API's, but are linked in some ways to WU, as they use some "APPX" routines and "orchestrators" and "workers" in a similar way, BUT if not called FROM the Store itself, they usually operate silently in the background. You can get a lot of activity with the "APP" updates, especially if you system has been off for a while.

    Open the Store, click the "three button" option menu top-right, choose "Download & Updates", click "Get Update", to see what I mean".

    I get Edge Updates quite frequently with the version number changing but don't get any notification. Had one yesterday, one on 21st with previous on 16th. Only indication is when first opening of Edge after unannounced update, initial page loading takes marginally longer - then OK until next update. I assume an Upgrade would come thru WUDs.

    This morning, WaasMedic ran a scheduled run, lasted about 8 minutes, first half noticeable, during this time Task Manager showed this & other processes running but WaasMedic not at top of list as taking most disc. The effect similar to yesterday morning to a less degree & for a shorter time which turned out to be Adobe Reader DC updating itself. Every morning I check for any Updates in settings, this normally records 3-5 minutes after initial 'On' button, today was recorded as 12 minutes which coincidently tied in with WaasMedic ending. No error shown in WUD's, likewise with a manual run. Does this infer there was an issue with the downloading itself although normally I have had the WaasMedic problem a day or two after installing updates. Checked event viewer, error recorded on last 3 occasions of WaasMedic issues with report 'Microsoft Windows Remediation failed to Start with error 0xc000035 is this directly linked? looks as though it may be. Time recorded of error was same as  WUD's should have recorded as run in Updates & Security in normal circumstances. Also in Event Viewer under Information, 40 minutes after boot, entry for download & install Microsoft X.Box Gaming overlay which must of happened in background unannounced- connected?. X.Box switched off but switching off MS apps does not stop updates coming thru'.

    I didn't make any changes to my machine, but got a message of a recent MicroSoft Edge Upgrade and my machine seems to be back to normal booting up within a couple of minutes versus 10-15 minutes previously.   I no longer see WaasMedic consuming 100% of disk during start up.   I have no idea what happened but hope it stays.  Not sure if anyone else knows whether MicroSoft Edge or other MicroSoft upgrades could explain the improvement.  I haven't made any changes to software or configuration that I'm aware of.
