WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    Here on my studio computer which has an i7 8700K and 16 gigs of RAM but an HDD WaaS runs from between 8 and 13 minutes. On this system which has an i5 3470 and 8 gigs of RAM but an SSD WaaS only ran for about 30 seconds yesterday. The i7 8700K has a benchmark score of 13906 while the i5 3470 has a score of 4642 so three times less not even factoring in the difference in RAM. So here at least it's not processor speed or RAM that seems to be the major difference but SSD versus HDD. However my laptop which is running an old i3 3130 with 4 gigs of RAM and an HDD that may spin at a slower RPM than desktop drives WaaS can take up to 20 minutes to run with severe impact on system performance so there does seem to be some relation to system specs and WaaS run times. Also the amount of files a system has seems to have an affect. Check in Windows>Servicing>LCU and see how many "Package for Rollup Fix" folders there are. On this system there are three folders dated 5/11, 6/5 and 6/8. WaaS appears to scan and read all those files on systems with HDDs which is about 2.9 gigs of data and 242,000 files while those files are not scanned on the system with an SSD. Also files in WinSxS are scanned by HHDs but not the SSD. I think "Package for Rollup FIX" is major clue that something may be broken.

    My laptop is running Win 10 Home edition and it does have the Task Scheduler. That was where I was able to see that WaaS was blocked from running due to it being disabled by the registry hack. I don't know if there are different versions of Win 10 Home or not.

    We seem to talking about HDD & SSD's, surely this should also be related to processor speed, I assume this will have an effect on any type of drive, no good having a quick drive speed if processor cannot handle that speed. I'm sure the majority of us are still on HDD so MS need to address us all & resolve the problem. Six months now and have had no updates from MS confirming the issue is being investigated - I wonder why?

    Someone calculated how much electricity was used to complete a blockchain transaction (and it was A LOT).

    Would someone please calculate what the worldwide cost of Windows Update and the related WaasMedic bug is. The carbon footprint of this crud must be enormous.

    Microsoft should pay for their sloppy attitudes towards the planet.
