WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    I may be a cynic, but it appears to me, MS are actually reading this thread. Various solutions are being proffered but they all seem, at the best, temporary. Soon after someone suggests a possible solution, MS shut the door by updating the OS somewhere making the cure obsolete and shifting the problem elsewhere. I was daft enough to think by purchasing a new computer it was mine, apparently not, it is 'owned' by MS.

    Microsloth is now attacking my SSD! Today I powered up, went to the kitchen added milk to the cereal bowl, made a coffee (grind, tamp in portafilter, brew, steam milk) and returned to see the whirling white dots! The login screen didn't pop up until I sat down at the machine. I logged in and immediately went to Resource Monitor and saw 8 instances of MicrosoftEdge, the top two in slots 1 and 2 of total I/O, slots 5, 6, 8, 9 occupied by the other instances of Edge, then further down the list (still in the top 20) were four instances of an EdgeUpdater process. Note that none of these processes can be killed, nor can Edge be uninstalled.

    So now it appears the Edge is the new spyware / "disk killer" for SSD users!

    NOTE: SSDs have limited number of accesses, shorter life-span than spinning disks, and when they malfunction it will be total, without warning and without possibility of full or partial data recovery. This is unlike spinning disks which usually signal imminent failure by increasing frequency of read / write errors and failed blocks that can be mapped out with chkdsk, which may also be able to partially recover files with read / write errors. That is why SSD users need to be MUCH MORE diligent in backing up the SSD's and why many SSD users move Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos and Downloads (i.e. personal / created content) off the SSD to a spinning disk or RAID.

    In Task Schedular->Task Scheduler Library->Microsoft->Windows->Application Experience, right-click all the items that appear in the "Name - Status - Triggers" panel and select "Disable". MS obviously doesn't care about this bit of spyware as they have never tried the WaasMedicAgent tactics of re-enabling them every boot-up or surreptitiously placing a special User / Security Principal so you do not have permissions to enable / disable it.

    Unfortunately you'll find that "CompatTelRunner" and "PcaSvc.dll" (PcaPatchDbTask) are miniscule in terms of resources hogged compared to WaasMedicAgent.
