My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

Thanks,

Paul...

In English: Patience, and the problem disapears. And I Agree !

After a while the waasmedic agent stopped, disappeared from my tasklist.

I read somewhere that this agent forces users of Win7, Win 8 to upgrade to Win10

A few years ago had similar issue with, I think, a printer driver. MS said driver needed updating, their version number pre-dated and had a lower version that my current driver. My version was actually that published on the manufacture's list, luckily on 8.1, so had the choice to ignore & hide. I was always told NOT to accept any MS updates that were for non MS apps etc. Now you have NO choice and get issues as described.  Does Xerox interfere with MS monthly update? - on reflection, perhaps if they did, things would be less troublesome. At the moment, when I open 'settings', MS recommend I restore Edge to THEIR settings. I was forced to update to 'NEW' Edge anyway and had issues for a few days until cracking it. I was a bit thick in assuming when I closed Edge I had CLOSED Edge - WRONG - by default it continues running in the background. Likewise their Fast Start-Up - what is the point, when I shut down I want to shut down, NOT what MS deem by only partially shutting down & causing subsequent issues with various apps that depend on a full shut down, I experienced a problem with an app that appeared to have 'lost its way' and not working correctly - disabling fast start immediately cured. These all seem to be MS slipping these in but not bothering to tell us, after experiencing an issue have to find your own cure.
