My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

Thanks,

Paul...

Last few weeks in addition to scheduled WaasMedic run on a Sunday, been having a second run during the week. This second run basically running a half day later each week, initially started on Monday AM, last week up to Friday AM boot, today at PM boot. Does that mean 3 weeks time Sunday will run twice, be twice the severity etc?. Today's run a bit more noticeable, slight delay opening apps for 3-4 minutes then another 3-4 minutes more or less back to normal. Bet this or a clone will still be present in Windows 11.

"Shut Down", as far as MS is concerned, has two meanings. Since Windows 8, in their wisdom, they, by default, gave as Fast Start, which in their terms, is a hybrid between full shut down & hibernate which means you never actually shut down, so computer never has a chance to fully clear out memory and refresh itself. Initially this caused problems with numerous apps as they depend on a full shutdown. First version 8 computer I had, Norton was installed, than began to have problems, this was eventually solved by switching off Fast Start, at the time, many reports of same problems encountered with various. apps.

Being old fashioned, always do a full shut down after a session, could never see the point of sleep or hibernate, when the computer is on, I am using it, may have the occasional 20 minutes or so break for a mental refresh but as soon as finished doing what I was doing, I do a proper shut down.

If I understand your question, you should be able to delete your older device from your Microsoft Account Devices page. I'm not sure if you can delete the last or only device, but if you can't you might want to close the account instead. To close the account, search Account Help for "close" or "delete".
