WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    No.

    Windows has many "services" that run as "background" processes.

    Example: the "Windows Defender" anti-virus program monitors your computer's files. It is a "service", not an "app".

    In your case, there is a service named "Windows Update", and another service named "Windows Update Medic" --namely a "medic" (think of a military soldier with specific training to give first-aid assistance to wounded soldiers on a battle-field) to treat problems within the Windows Update service.  

    When the WAASUPDATE ran (moments ago), it did use a lot of CPU power, and kept the (non-SSD) disk-drive 100% busy for quite a while, but my computer only has 4 processors, each running at only 1.3 Ghz, and a 5400 RPM "spinning" disk-drive. But, it did complete, and my computer is back to "normal" -- fully useable.

    Fake news. 

    Two years ago, Adobe announced that they were ending all support for Adobe Flash Player, at the end of December 2020. So, the update from Microsoft removes this now-unsupported software. Web-pages that were coded to use Flash Player should be recoded to use modern technologies, such as HTML5.

    My Mom's computer crashed this week - 100% Disk after 2 large Windows updates and 1 Dell Support Assist update on the 15th and 17th of this month.  Tried to restore it for her and that ran for hours and failed, and then put it into endless boot issue with problems. System repair and other diagnostics fixed nothing.  I had to take the computer a part, pull the hard drive, retrieve all her files and am not reinstalling windows from a USB recovery drive.  SMH - Microsoft, GIVE US BACK CONTROL OF OUR COMPUTERS AND UPDATES!  I thankfully know how to do all this because it's been happening to my computer over the last 3 months.  Seems to be running a lot better when I removed Dell Support Assist and paused Windows updates for the maximum allowable days but I suspect it will kill me again when it forces the updates.

    I'm having the same issue, but my CPU won't update lately nor can I use my feedback hub. It's been screwy since the last cumulative update about a week ago. 

    If anyone has a suggestion as to what the correct thing to do, I would appreciate it. Lost my tech pro last year to the virus. Can't bring myself to find someone who is as qualified as my boy was. Anyway, just need some advice from an old fading lady.
