Windows 10 update issue due to error 0x800f0831

Dear,

I'm on Windows 10 1903. Every few days the systems attempts to update itself but finally reverts.

KB4577671 error 0x800f0831

This drives me crazy.

I tried to get help from Microsoft support. During the last session they even deliberate managed to shut down my the computer while they where on remote assistance. End of shift? So far for my confidence I Microsoft support.

I checked a few things

  1. scf /scannow finds no problem
  2. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth results in

[=========                  15.5%                          ]

Error: 4448

The WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I'm not smart enough to understand the log file.

  1. I attempted a full Windows 10 install from media it also failed. Problem during the second boot, whatever that means, and revert to the earlier version as well.

I'm not willing to reinstall this pc from scratch since I have some music editing applications configured and working in a way that I'm really doubt I can ever reconstruct it the same way.

I believe the problem is in the corrupted file encountered by dism. Can anyone help me out?

    I had recently uninstalled mcafee. That file is no longer there. Have tried updating 3 times since then.

    is the list of corrupt files on one of the xml files? I am sure there are several i could likely name 

    Thank you for the info. I think i had tried the update troubleshooter already but will try it again.

    Run command prompt as administrator and type and hit enter key after each of them: 

    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    sfc /scannow

    If you get successful on all them reboot your computer

    otherwise you will need to reinstall your win 10 20H2

    wait. if i uninstalled it, there wouldnt be a attempt by computer to try and start it which would cause the errors? Once uninstalled I shouldnt be able to discover it in the startup of the computer, would it?

    If you still have mcafee as I showed you, the update won't be successful. You need to download mcafee removal tool to help clean them all from your computer. I'm not able to find it (MCPR.exe).

    Mcafee was uninstalled. Retried updating windows. Failed. Reset computer to factory new and am reinstalling programs and files from scratch. Done wasting time on an obvious windows issue.
