xbox series x controller via bluetooth not recognized in games
I bought an xbox series x controller (not xbox one) from someone who had an elite and don't need the new controller. I'm sure it's authentic. I can connect it to my windows 10 pc via bluetooth and it appears as an xbox wireless controller.
However in all games it is not recognized as an xbox controller but a generic bluetooth "18 (don't remember the exact number) button controller with HAT" or something. And it doesn't work in any of my games.
Is this a known issue or did I do something wrong? It feels like either the controller is so new windows doesn't know it yet, or I'm missing a driver software, or games need to specifically support it. Anyone has similar experience? Thank you!

Edit: on 11/10/2020 MS updated its Xbox Accessories app which adds Xbox Series X/S controller bluetooth support. All you need to do is to connect the controller with a USB-C cable, open the app, go through a rather lengthy update, and now the controller connected via bluetooth is working perfectly.

2020-11-10T12:19:43+00:00 I have the same exact problem. I bought an xbox series x controller. Works fine when connected via cable. But when I connect it via bluetooth, it does connect, but it is seen as "16 axis controller with hatswitch" or something like that. And the games cannot see it.

2020-11-10T12:35:57+00:00 Im having this issue too, connects fine via bluetooth but just doesn’t work in game or in steam big picture mode.
Controls work if I plug in the USB cable but I would prefer wireless as the only reason I even bought the thing to begin with was so I could connect it to my PC without a dongle.
I’ve tried everything, updated bluetooth drivers, windows 10, downloded the xbox accessories app and updated the controller, still nothing.
If I cant make it work in 7 days im gonna have to return it.

2020-11-10T12:49:28+00:00 I have the exact same issue. At first, this new controller failed to connect keep killing my bluetooth driver and causing my bluetooth dongle offline. After I finally solved it and get it connected, Windows doesn't recognise it as xbox controller as usual but shows "6 axis 16 button controller with hat". Use windows controller setting to check buttons, there is X Axis missing altogether (right stick), the Z axis which should be your triggers is linked to right stick, ABXY buttons are not the usual 3456 buttons. In one word its everywhere... ./facepalm for day one
