I bought an xbox series x controller (not xbox one) from someone who had an elite and don't need the new controller. I'm sure it's authentic. I can connect it to my windows 10 pc via bluetooth and it appears as an xbox wireless controller.
However in all games it is not recognized as an xbox controller but a generic bluetooth "18 (don't remember the exact number) button controller with HAT" or something. And it doesn't work in any of my games.
Is this a known issue or did I do something wrong? It feels like either the controller is so new windows doesn't know it yet, or I'm missing a driver software, or games need to specifically support it. Anyone has similar experience? Thank you!

Edit: on 11/10/2020 MS updated its Xbox Accessories app which adds Xbox Series X/S controller bluetooth support. All you need to do is to connect the controller with a USB-C cable, open the app, go through a rather lengthy update, and now the controller connected via bluetooth is working perfectly.

Ha! I tried again and realized that MS just updated its xbox accessories app (downloaded from windows store) to support xbox series controllers. I plugged it in with a usb-c cable and went through a lengthy (at least 3mins) update, and now the controller is recognized via bluetooth! It turns out MS has a pretty rigid understanding of launch day support -- by pushing an update not one day early. Anyway problem solved. Cheers.
I have the exact same issue.
Paired successfully over bluetooth but isn't recognised in games.
I bought this controller especially because my switch controller wasn't recognised in games and i thought MS would support their own controllers better :/
Same issue here.
Controller connects fine via bluetooth, but is not detected correctly in games. Even the "Game Controller" Utility detects it wrong. And the Xbox Accessories App does not detect it when connected via bluetooth either. When plugging in via cable I was prompted to update controller firmware, but this didn't solve my issues either.

Same problem. Just receive new controller.
If connect via cable - it recognizing in devices as "Controller". Fully workable, allow to update via accessories app and play games.
If connect via Bluetooth, located on "Mice, keyboard.." section as "Xbox Wireless Controller ${SERIAL}".
Windows 10, fully updated. Also update all mother board drivers, including BT driver.
Mother board: MSI meg x570 ace, BT version 5.1.
Looks like a problem with a driver. Hope MS fix problem quickly.
I'm running into the following issue;
Connects with bluetooth flawlessly. Controller is recognised and even displays the battery level. However, it is not recognised at all in some games and in other games (Resident Evil 2 remake for example) it works but the button mapping is all over the place i.e. it thinks A is B etc. As well as this, some of the buttons don't work at all.
Using the official MS adapter fixes all these issues, but it would be nice if this worked without the need - I mean my ps4 controller connects to my pc and works perfectly in every game without and adapter, why doesn't an Xbox series X controller do the same?
