xbox series x controller via bluetooth not recognized in games

I bought an xbox series x controller (not xbox one) from someone who had an elite and don't need the new controller. I'm sure it's authentic. I can connect it to my windows 10 pc via bluetooth and it appears as an xbox wireless controller.

However in all games it is not recognized as an xbox controller but a generic bluetooth "18 (don't remember the exact number) button controller with HAT" or something. And it doesn't work in any of my games.

Is this a known issue or did I do something wrong? It feels like either the controller is so new windows doesn't know it yet, or I'm missing a driver software, or games need to specifically support it. Anyone has similar experience? Thank you!

Edit: on 11/10/2020 MS updated its Xbox Accessories app which adds Xbox Series X/S controller bluetooth support. All you need to do is to connect the controller with a USB-C cable, open the app, go through a rather lengthy update, and now the controller connected via bluetooth is working perfectly.

    I'm having the same problem, manage to update under Xbox accessories but only will work with USB cable not via Bluetooth even though its connected

    I am having the same issue.

    New Black Series X Contrtoller arrived today.

    Was using another controller (Cyberpunk edition).

    This new one is recognised by Bluetooth and pairs but does not work with any games.

    Tried STEAM, EPIC and ORIGIN.

    I have tried everything: Windows 10 - updated. The same goes for the controller and accessories app - NOTHING.

    While using a cable - windows 10 can recognize the controller. The moment I disconnect it and it switches to wireless Windows 10 forgets about it and sees a peculiar 16 axis pad form another planet.

    I am not even angry anymore ... it's so stupid that it makes me laugh... A current Microsoft operating system DOES NOT recognize a Microsoft current gen gaming pad that is supposed to work with it - can you believe it?

    I don't know how are things right now at Microsoft but there is a serious problem between "operating system guys" and "xbox guys" - some of the must be living in a parallel universe...

    Pathetic - really....

    Yup, I am also experiencing the bluetooth randomly cutting out and disconnecting the controller for a second or two. Help MS!

    Despite updating the controller firmware to the new version (5.5.2641) and Windows to version 20H2, the bluetooth still suffers from micro cuts. I think it's related to BTLE. Unchecking the power saving option in Bluetooth LE XINPUT compatible input device doesn't seem to work either. Any other update on its way?
