xbox series x controller via bluetooth not recognized in games

I bought an xbox series x controller (not xbox one) from someone who had an elite and don't need the new controller. I'm sure it's authentic. I can connect it to my windows 10 pc via bluetooth and it appears as an xbox wireless controller.

However in all games it is not recognized as an xbox controller but a generic bluetooth "18 (don't remember the exact number) button controller with HAT" or something. And it doesn't work in any of my games.

Is this a known issue or did I do something wrong? It feels like either the controller is so new windows doesn't know it yet, or I'm missing a driver software, or games need to specifically support it. Anyone has similar experience? Thank you!

Edit: on 11/10/2020 MS updated its Xbox Accessories app which adds Xbox Series X/S controller bluetooth support. All you need to do is to connect the controller with a USB-C cable, open the app, go through a rather lengthy update, and now the controller connected via bluetooth is working perfectly.

    It was an option bro.

You know one update has to be install is MS update KB 4580364 is required.

i notice when i can't connect to games my xbox power button flashes, then i have to hold down the bluetooth button on the controller to reconnect to windows.

Other than that, i cant help because i don't know what your computer specs or is it connected to bluetooth, or actually what's happening so i am provided with not much info.

    Good luck!

I think i landed myself a can of worms, i don't work for microsoft but was having the same issue.

Only Microsoft can reward me for my effofts hint, hint.

Is it seeing in your wireless controller in seeing in bluetooth

What laptop do you have out of curiosity? is it old or new?

Hope there is major news announced on this reported worldwide, seems to be an issue to lots of folks.

There is one last option if you can't get Bluetooth working, might save you a headache, return and refund your current controller and get the wireless adaptor one but you need to pre-order it - not out yet. This was my last plan if i did not get my wireless controller to work

I know how you feel mate, first time i got the controller i was in the same position, Microsoft really messed up on this one.

Question.. Is your bluetooth working in general on your system with other bluetooth devices?

Have you gone down the route of updating to the latest BIOS, bluetooth drivers, intel drivers to your system. I brought a new machine so i guessing it works on Bluetooth 5 machine but that should not matter unless Microsoft made it not work on Bluetooth 4 or lower machine(who knows there is requirement manual for it). I have no idea if it works on older machines?
