Have tried 3 times. Message on update page says it did not install and I may try again. This is not a new install. Have been using for couple of years.

    Hello,

Here is what solved the problem for me (I've also been struggling with this issue for weeks now; tried any possible step: windows update assistant, recovery tool, checkdsk, etc..).

    Solution:

    • update your bios. My motherboard is from MSI, and I updated its BIOS version.
    • unplug all unnecessary USB devices / dongles.

These are the only two steps I did differently. Afterwards, the 20H2 update has been successfully installed.

p.s. I'm pretty much done with the MS stuff... This is not the first time I'm spending days of my life trying to solve issues with this OS. Will be making a switch soon.

All the best to you guys,

    AK

Good Morning,  Thankyou for the advice on the Bios update.  I will check if Asus have a Bios update for the two netbooks ( same models ) that I'm trying to update.

Yes like you I have been talking about why MS have not realized that people want a simple OS without the Bloatwear.

I will keep this updated , especially if there is a Bios update.

Thanks Again for taking the time to help.

The BIOS update and driver update helped my computer not irreversibly crash (where I had to reload windows from scratch). I did another BIOS update today and windows 20H2 install attempt, but no luck for the ~10th time.

Same Issue. Dell Latitude E7420 from May 2021. Update constantly fails and it says will try again later. All latest BIOS updates are installed. COME ON Microsoft!!!!

Sorry to hear that flashing BIOS didn’t help.

I’ve tried every step described in this thread + various YouTube videos and blog posts and nothing helped.

What did the trick for me is indeed flashing my BIOS and disconnecting all unnecessary usb dongles. The update has been then successfully installed, without issues.
