Have tried 3 times. Message on update page says it did not install and I may try again. This is not a new install. Have been using for couple of years.

    Hello,

Here is what solved the problem for me (I've also been struggling with this issue for weeks now; tried any possible step: windows update assistant, recovery tool, checkdsk, etc..).

    Solution:

    • update your bios. My motherboard is from MSI, and I updated its BIOS version.
    • unplug all unnecessary USB devices / dongles.

These are the only two steps I did differently. Afterwards, the 20H2 update has been successfully installed.

p.s. I'm pretty much done with the MS stuff... This is not the first time I'm spending days of my life trying to solve issues with this OS. Will be making a switch soon.

All the best to you guys,

    AK

Thanks for the suggestion of clearing the windows distribution area , I did this and downloaded again but still the stage where the updates get applied FAILS.

I have installed this version of the OS on 3 different laptops, one of which was a lowly based Celeron , but the lesser netbooks I am trying to update are ASUS netbooks with just 32gb ram and I have to use a USB device to help install. This worked for the previous 1909 install in 2019 so I have experience on these installs and I get the install to the point of it being applied but it just won't apply the changes !!

The netbooks will have to stay on 1909 until Microsoft release something that will work.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I wish Microsoft read these and responded with some support.

Tried running the WUreset script but it fails saying it cannot find one of the programs in it's list of functions.

Had to abort script using CtrlC

I can see it's a typical batch file with list of function/commands but simply stops as it cannot find needed program.

because it hangs, it fails to complete .

Is there a version of the script that continues when it runs into issues like not being able to do one part of the list of functions ?

Perhaps Microsoft need to put something in the 20H2 update that does prepare the way !!

    Thanks

Thankyou for your help in this .

I have found a script on the Microsoft site called WUreset.bat couldn't find WUreset2.0.bat.

I Also note there is a product called WUreset on WUreset.com .

If there is a version 2 could you please post link here ?

I will try running this as advised in a Dos window on the affected netbook and report back for others .

    Many thanks
