Have tried 3 times. Message on update page says it did not install and I may try again. This is not a new install. Have been using for couple of years.

i need to get this update things in the microsoft store are not working and im starting to think everything else is going to start to do the same.

Just found this thread and comments.  In a way I am happy I am not only person getting this problem.  And I have tried most of the solutions above that I understand.  So I have no idea where to go from here.  All previous updates worked very well and I am getting very annoyed with Microsoft as dealing with this issue and the repeated lengthy failures to install are wasting an awful lot of my time.

    Hello,

I have tried everything to install 20H2 with no success. I have ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /restorehealth followed by sfc/scannow and then used the update assistant. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks from Howard

No news on this topic? I have tried everything, and and still can't update to version 2004 or 20H2...

Shame Microsoft. I will have to fully restore my laptop for this error??

I feel that Microsoft started this User forum so they could avoid their responsibly to to fix issues in a timely manner.

    1. They create the software,
    2. They screwup the updates,
    3. Then they expect us to fix the problems they created
    4. There are so many folks on here that think they know what they are doing; and most of their supposed solutions either don't work or often make things worse.

My laptop is brand new out the box only hours old and I have an issue with this update too. except I'm getting

    Failed to install on ‎15/‎01/‎2021 - 0x80240438

Very frustrating that a $2600 laptop has a rogue update.

I have tried clearing update cache like is shown here

    https://thegeekpage.com/clear-windows-update-cache/

but windows update will not refresh. It doesn't even have the update anymore and the trouble shooter can't even detect the "Failed to install" logged error. What on earth is it checking if not the update history?

Microsoft please at least make the trouble shooter acknowledge the failed update.
