Great to see another seafaring brethren. I couldn't quite resolve your uniform cover's insignia - Coast Guard? I see you were a Warrant Officer - not sure of the grade. I was a Naval Aviator for 8 years. Counting my trainers, I typed in 5 different AC. My primary role was reconnaissance. The best plane I ever flew was the North American Vigilante RA-5C. Like all of us, I'm aging up too. I retired from active flying 15 years ago. I too enjoy playing this sim, especially when you can complete your trip.

The abbreviation I used in my post - AV - references my anti-virus protection. I would not normally suggest to anyone they disable their computer's protection, but in this context I did that for a specific download. Here's a way to see your computer's update status: press the Windows key in the lower left corner of your keyboard - the key with the Windows symbol on it; when the Search field opens at the bottom left, type "winver" - without the quotes. When the status of your windows OS displays, make sure you have the latest version indicated: 21H1. If 21H1 is not indicated, then you have to download that update from Microsoft. Once you've established that you have 21H1 installed, follow the other directions I outlined above in my earlier post to download Flight Simulator. Good luck, Robert. Let us know how you make out. NealO.

When Installation Manager does its job the FS is great! But every time I decide to have a play I have to go through this 4 - 5 hour upload - is there no way to stop automatic updates and just play when you wish to? 3 hours in an I am 67% downloaded and now giving up and heading to bed!

Am I missing something here? Some basic setting that would allow me to avoid all but mandatory updates and not every thing?

    Hello RamonPadiani:

I know what you are going through with the "Mandatory" update thing when you start FS. I've tried to figure out why on random occasions Microsoft forces you to keep re-installing the Standard Edition "Mandatory" update. I've had to do that 3X. Then I tagged it to the other content updates that you have to install. I noticed every time I had updates listed in "Content Manager" that the next time I opened FS, the program goes directly into "Mandatory" update of the Standard Edition. However, my installation of FS seems to be pretty stable for a while now. I open FS and it immediately checks for updates. My install is fully updated now and it goes directly into the game. I've been able to "fly" each time I've opened FS for about two weeks straight now. So, all I can say is hang in there and eventually you'll be fully updated and able to immediately "fly" when you open FS. At least I hope that happens for you. NealO.
