Great to see another seafaring brethren. I couldn't quite resolve your uniform cover's insignia - Coast Guard? I see you were a Warrant Officer - not sure of the grade. I was a Naval Aviator for 8 years. Counting my trainers, I typed in 5 different AC. My primary role was reconnaissance. The best plane I ever flew was the North American Vigilante RA-5C. Like all of us, I'm aging up too. I retired from active flying 15 years ago. I too enjoy playing this sim, especially when you can complete your trip.

The abbreviation I used in my post - AV - references my anti-virus protection. I would not normally suggest to anyone they disable their computer's protection, but in this context I did that for a specific download. Here's a way to see your computer's update status: press the Windows key in the lower left corner of your keyboard - the key with the Windows symbol on it; when the Search field opens at the bottom left, type "winver" - without the quotes. When the status of your windows OS displays, make sure you have the latest version indicated: 21H1. If 21H1 is not indicated, then you have to download that update from Microsoft. Once you've established that you have 21H1 installed, follow the other directions I outlined above in my earlier post to download Flight Simulator. Good luck, Robert. Let us know how you make out. NealO.

Although the download has not fully completed yet I think I have found a very annoying fix. You need to download a free program called Net Limiter 4. Once you have it installed it lists all of your active programs downloading and uploading data. You need to find "flightsimulator.exe" and set a limit on the download speed. I have been able to get away with 600 KB/s and it being stable. Yes, it is INCREDIBLY SLOW but it is the only fix that has allowed me to get past the infinite restarting of file downloads. I hope this helps.

I dont have the subscription anymore and I'm not wasting money to chance and see if netlimiter is going to help me, the game needs to work by itself, my steam downloads are garbage and drop to 0kbps for no discernable reason but thats heaven to me now, after all they dont go backwards! That's what I'm talking about, Microsoft have screwed up, they could have gotten the money I paid to try out the game and then the full price of the deluxe game that's how ready I was for this, I followed along with all the development videos on YouTube. But in 3 months I never found a solution that worked for me and I had to make a decision whether or not to keep wasting monthly subscription fees and hours of my life pulling my hair out reading the same instructions rehashed in every different thread, hoping that I might get to play a game today. For my own sanity I have had to basically forget that this game even exists and that I was ever excited about it, hoping in the back of my mind that maybe I'll play it in 5 years time when they iron out all the bugs that require you to install third party software and leave your PC on for days on end. That has been my Flight Simulator 2020 experience and I'm telling anyone who'll listen.

I bought the deluxe premium game yesterday morning , Saturday Jan. 2, 2021, and am in the process of reinstalling it for the 3rd time.  I think I got a whole 10 minutes play time on it before it crashed.  Upon restarting the game, it keeps getting stuck on the"Checking for updates" screen.  I went through several troubleshooting steps, several times, all to no avail.  Reinstalling worked...for about 30 minutes before it crashed again and got stuck on checking for updates...again.

This is completely unacceptable and has wasted 450 GB of my monthly download allotment!  Definitely not worth the $130.

I ran wireshark during the "checking for updates" process and saw that akamai was sending invalid SSL certificates, which were rejected (connection reset) by my computer.  After wasting another 5 hours troubleshooting I uninstalled the game and am reinstalling.  I'll run more troubleshooting if it happens again.  (I almost typed "when" as I'm sure it will.)
