Great to see another seafaring brethren. I couldn't quite resolve your uniform cover's insignia - Coast Guard? I see you were a Warrant Officer - not sure of the grade. I was a Naval Aviator for 8 years. Counting my trainers, I typed in 5 different AC. My primary role was reconnaissance. The best plane I ever flew was the North American Vigilante RA-5C. Like all of us, I'm aging up too. I retired from active flying 15 years ago. I too enjoy playing this sim, especially when you can complete your trip.

The abbreviation I used in my post - AV - references my anti-virus protection. I would not normally suggest to anyone they disable their computer's protection, but in this context I did that for a specific download. Here's a way to see your computer's update status: press the Windows key in the lower left corner of your keyboard - the key with the Windows symbol on it; when the Search field opens at the bottom left, type "winver" - without the quotes. When the status of your windows OS displays, make sure you have the latest version indicated: 21H1. If 21H1 is not indicated, then you have to download that update from Microsoft. Once you've established that you have 21H1 installed, follow the other directions I outlined above in my earlier post to download Flight Simulator. Good luck, Robert. Let us know how you make out.     I was an XPlane11 flyer who could not wait for MSFS to be released. Like others on the forum, I bought the Deluxe Version. I'm using Bravo Quadrant and Yoke and running an HP Omen gaming system with NVIDIA/Gforce graphics. XPlane and MSFS are the only things I use my sim computer for. Everything working fine until June's big update from MS. After that update MSFS stopped working. It actually started with a mid-flight crash to desktop. Then the program would load and, like you all have experienced, once you are "ready to fly" the MSFS crashed black and back to my Desktop.

    Tried to find technical support and found nothing. I monkeyed around with NVIDIA settings reducing resolution a bit and that seemed to be the solution. MSFS was back in the air. Now, yesterday, I loaded the 40gig mandatory update for the Standard Edition (why, since I'm a Deluxe owner, I have no idea) and I'm back to square one again. Crashing to the Desktop when I get ready to fly.....all the while Microsoft stays silent while we all post to forums complaining about the problem.

    Absolutely frustrated and disappointed with MS and this program. Graphics are great, but when you want real instrument functionality with a reliable (and stable) platform for flying - - Hands Down it is XPLANE-11. For that, I am thankful I did not delete my XPlane when I purchased and installed MSFS. I'm a CFI/CFII/MEI and use the sims (XPlane more than MSFS) for instrument practice when I can't get to a real aircraft or approved training device. I was hopeful MSFS would provide more capability along with graphics and better real-time weather. Since it doesn't work.....it is just hogging disk space at the moment with no relief in sight.

    In my mind MSFS is bordering on being a defective product and Microsoft knows it, but doesn't care....they got our money and keep sending out updates that are useless and offer no meaningful support. Echoing a prior post who also bought Deluxe Version.....hard to really tell what's different between Deluxe and Standard.

    Heading to my XPLANE11 hangar to fly..,.....

    I realize that this is an old thread and I appreciate your expertise in your attempt to offer support suggestions to those of us who wearily labor to successfully install and actually get to "PLAY" Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2020. This new Flight Simulator game is very striking in its overall design, but sadly reminds me of a new Lamborghini Huracan EVO undrivable and stored in the garage for lack of repair parts. It seems whenever I wish to open my edition of FS Deluxe, it either ports me directly to Microsoft Store or it opens my Installation Manager and advises I need a "Mandatory Update" of the Standard iteration. Here's what I've done with my installation of FS 2020 - more than once: I went through the APP Repair/Reset cycle; Uninstalled the program; opened Microsoft Store and began Install of the owned Deluxe version; attempted to "PLAY" the game and was quickly ported to Installation Manager required to download the Standard FS as a mandatory update. This has become nothing more than a reset cycle. Each time I begin the Mandatory Update download, it will download approximately 7-8GB (+- 11%) and then reset back to 0 to begin the download all over again. Microsoft has inflicted legions of Flight Simulator 2020 wounded who just want to simply "PLAY" this Microsoft game. As is typical of Microsoft in their obsession to "get to market", they've unleashed a turkey infested with bugs. With all due respect, how can you ask FS 2020 users to labor on through all of the links you've offered in your post above? Shouldn't this product be a simple matter of direct install like most other software packages are in the marketplace. Why hasn't Microsoft worked on and developed a major installation update for Flight Simulator 2020? I appreciate your time, but I have one more question to ask: can you in simple steps (i.e.: 1,2,3 etc.) layout instructions to successfully install and complete all necessary updates in order to "PLAY" FS 2020? My gear: DELL Precision 5820 Workstation Tower with Single Xeon W-2225 Proc; 32GB ram; NVIDIA Quadro P2200; Synology DS220+ 2-bay NAS w/twin 6TB Seagate NAS HDDs used for bulk storage. Thank you.
