Great to see another seafaring brethren. I couldn't quite resolve your uniform cover's insignia - Coast Guard? I see you were a Warrant Officer - not sure of the grade. I was a Naval Aviator for 8 years. Counting my trainers, I typed in 5 different AC. My primary role was reconnaissance. The best plane I ever flew was the North American Vigilante RA-5C. Like all of us, I'm aging up too. I retired from active flying 15 years ago. I too enjoy playing this sim, especially when you can complete your trip.

The abbreviation I used in my post - AV - references my anti-virus protection. I would not normally suggest to anyone they disable their computer's protection, but in this context I did that for a specific download. Here's a way to see your computer's update status: press the Windows key in the lower left corner of your keyboard - the key with the Windows symbol on it; when the Search field opens at the bottom left, type "winver" - without the quotes. When the status of your windows OS displays, make sure you have the latest version indicated: 21H1. If 21H1 is not indicated, then you have to download that update from Microsoft. Once you've established that you have 21H1 installed, follow the other directions I outlined above in my earlier post to download Flight Simulator. Good luck, Robert. Let us know how you make out. Well, I did one thing wrong, I forgot to uninstall, restart, reinstall and then loaded from X-Box. Worked great. So I shut and reloaded from X-Box and it loaded perfectly. I would send you a thousand buck, but my wife puts a $5.00 limit on my credit. Bummer!! Thanks again Sc00p_.

Well, unfortunately that didn't work for me! I got the game started from the X-Box app, but during the load, I got the same box telling me to go to the MS Store and do the update. I have considered getting my 32 oz. ballpeen hammer and smashing my computer but I know that wouldn't give me any real satisfaction. I'm open for more ideas. Bob Rotruck, CWO3, USN (RET)

To add to the mix, I had the same issue as Robert. I went through the repair/reset cycle as well. However, instead of firing up the game by using the icon I opened the XBox App, clicked on the icon in the upper left corner, just under the X Globe, and started the game from there. That got me past the "Mandatory" install screen all the way to the update screen, where I was able to update the game. However, my download speed was limited to 10 MB/s on a 200 MB/s download line. I resolved that issue by downloading "TCP Optimizer" and setting everything to "Optimized." Now the download is proceeding at the full bandwidth capabilities of my Internet connection. I have no idea why Microsoft would modify my speeds like that since the last update. I sure as hell didn't change it, not with all the Microsoft bloat. Anyway, it's working now.

Here is where to get the optimizer.

    Best of luck
