I downloaded and installed the 2009 update. Completely lost all sound.
Went to task manager--under System Devices a red X on Intel Smartsound SST OED. Normally in Task Manager under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" there are five entries including Realtek HD Audio--all of them completely disappeared except the two Nvidia entries.
Called support--we tried reinstalling the latest sound drivers from HP (I have a 17" Omen Laptop) and it said the drivers would not support this version of Windows.
Finally the support guy had me roll back the update. Back up and running now on version 2004.
Not fun.
Well, this is typical of Microsoft not supporting their large corporate partners...just because. This is one of the reasons I purchased an external USB powered speaker system. I don't think MicroSoft is going to toss USB ports anytime soon! Good luck being a faithful user of their OS<Loud Laughter>. Hey, There is always Linux Mint 20 available @ www.linux.org along with many others. I always have one installed on an external drive. In fact Linux will install on a thumb drive if it's large enough. I prefer 64 to 128GB.

2020-10-30T13:54:20+00:00 hi,
I have windows 10 64 bit version 1607, on an MSI GL62M 7RD gaming laptop. I want to upgrade to a new version of windows 10, but my windows 10 simply refuses to install any updates, newer versions etc. Ive googled and tried every solution, including windows media creation tool, with offline installation Nothing. It configures the new updates (ive tried general updates and a whole windows 10 update), and then it just says it is undoing all the updates.
So ive decided just to do a complete reinstall of windows 10 to the newest available version that will run on my PC (intel core i5 7th gen), but im not sure how to do that from scratch. I have a USB hardrive - can i download the windows 10 to my usb hardrive and then install from there?
Im not sure how to go about this
please help...
many thanks

2020-10-30T14:34:55+00:00 You should really start your own post using Participate at the top of the forum.
I'll direct you to the Media Creation Tool here http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 and you should use a USB flash drive (8GB min) and not a hard drive. The drive will be formatted during the creation process.
Instructions are on the website.
If you are having trouble then start your own thread by creating a new post.
