H&R BLOCK 2019 BUSINESS SOFTWARE WILL NOT OPEN ANY MORE

This is Windows 10.

I had been using the 2019 H&R Block business software just fine. Last time used was July 15, 2020.

Went to open to prepare Sub-S return on Sept 12 and kept getting an error message saying it could not open. I tried having Geek Squad look at it. They spent about 2 1/2 hours running diagnostics and could not figure it out. I had another IT pro look at it for about 3 hours, ran diagnostics and the best he could figure was that it was a Microsoft update that somehow corrupted the ordering sequence for the program to open. All of my clients are locked up now. The other thing is that it also corrupted the 2018 program so I cannot access those files either.

Tried downloading a new 2019 Block program. Overwrote the old one. Still same problem. Loaded the software from the disc. Same problem.

Trying to get through to Block is a joke. You will spend hours on the phone.

Any thoughts?

I posted the original question. I gave up. I tried everything that was suggested and had two IT pros work on it for about 2-3 hours each. I tried reaching Block, but I cannot stay on hold for the better part of my remaining life. No one found an answer. I then purchased the 2019 H&R Block business download to replace the existing program on the computer, hoping that maybe they had patched the problem. No such luck plus it  overwrites the existing program automatically, so it wiped out all the atx files. Best Buy refuses to reimburse me for the software.

I also have a Carbonite subscription for backup to the cloud. They searched my files back to June but could not find any business program atx files. Another 3 hours shot.

My solution going forward was to purchase a new laptop and install the program from the disk that I already had. At that point, I had to use my PDF's and paper copies of the 2018 returns and re input all data. Program works fine on the other computer, so I question why so many other people had the same problem that I had for 2018 and 2019. I now print to PDF every client file including all support schedules, as well as doing a "backup" of the file instead of a "save as".

Overall, my experience was very disappointing and a complete time and money waster.

Block still has the best priced option out there, especially for business returns, but trying to deal with them has been a nightmare.

I have done exactly everything that you have done with no results.....so frustrating. I have been using this program for years and now can't open it.  Thankfully I do save copies of the returns, on my computer, on an external drive and on one drive.  Learned the hard way by only saving on thing and lost everything.  Sure hope we can find a solution to this.

Well, I kinda hate to admit this, but Misery really does love company!  I am glad to see I am not the only one with this problem.

A week before the October deadline, Windows crawled around in my computer and did an update (after previous postponements on my part - finally my number was up!).  Not only did the update take up lots of time I did not have, but my HRBlock software became lost in the dark abyss of software enhancements.  Not very nice timing.  I had the same issues as others above...tried the uninstall/reinstall, blah, blah, blah - and by the way, I DON'T have time for this this close to the final deadline!  AGGHH!

So my only fast fix, since I couldn't find a "patch" from HR Block or Windows, was to revert back to my pre-Windows 10 computer (Windows 7), and give it a go there by re-installing the HR Block software there.  I limped along with that strategy, and at least was able to upload 2018 to 2019 and get the return out by the deadline.

Now that my time is a little freed up, I will contact HRB to see if they have a fix by now.  I experienced a nightmare with the HRB software and the Windows 10 conversion stuff in January, but the guy who I talked to was very patient and helpful, and we finally got the software to the point I could use it - all up until October.  If I have success with that, I will share what I find out.

I find it extremely FRUSTRATING that updates happen that screw up my printer drivers and software without any warning.  After this and COVID, retirement looks even more appealing!

Thanks for your response......look forward to hearing if you get any help from Block.  I keep trying to call but the wait is so long.

The software now works for me. Uninstalling the recent Microsoft updates was not effective for me. I went to recovery mode and selected the previous build which now 2019 tax software opens.
