H&R BLOCK 2019 BUSINESS SOFTWARE WILL NOT OPEN ANY MORE

This is Windows 10.

I had been using the 2019 H&R Block business software just fine. Last time used was July 15, 2020.

Went to open to prepare Sub-S return on Sept 12 and kept getting an error message saying it could not open. I tried having Geek Squad look at it. They spent about 2 1/2 hours running diagnostics and could not figure it out. I had another IT pro look at it for about 3 hours, ran diagnostics and the best he could figure was that it was a Microsoft update that somehow corrupted the ordering sequence for the program to open. All of my clients are locked up now. The other thing is that it also corrupted the 2018 program so I cannot access those files either.

Tried downloading a new 2019 Block program. Overwrote the old one. Still same problem. Loaded the software from the disc. Same problem.

Trying to get through to Block is a joke. You will spend hours on the phone.

Any thoughts?

    I had same trouble. All steps must be completed in order before opening software. Pay close attention to the directory path of the files (Program Files vs Program Data for example). Sometimes it takes multiple attempts.

    The fix that you discuss requires the user to open HR Block Business in step 9 to restore the database in step 10. But the problem is that HR Block Business will not open.

    I would assume you could un-pause it then re-pause it. Just note that if you allow a monthly major Windows update to install, you might have to restore your database file again. On the other hand, if we're lucky & H&R fixes the software, maybe you won't. If anyone here does an update to both Windows (2nd Tuesday of the month?) and the H&R Business software and it works, let us know.

    Anyway to pause Windows updates for more then 35 days? I cannot find out if it is possible.

    Also be sure to Update your 2020 H&R Block Business software. H&R said that updates were coming last week and this week. Hopefully one of the updates may fix the issue, but I wouldn't count on it.
