H&R BLOCK 2019 BUSINESS SOFTWARE WILL NOT OPEN ANY MORE

This is Windows 10.

I had been using the 2019 H&R Block business software just fine. Last time used was July 15, 2020.

Went to open to prepare Sub-S return on Sept 12 and kept getting an error message saying it could not open. I tried having Geek Squad look at it. They spent about 2 1/2 hours running diagnostics and could not figure it out. I had another IT pro look at it for about 3 hours, ran diagnostics and the best he could figure was that it was a Microsoft update that somehow corrupted the ordering sequence for the program to open. All of my clients are locked up now. The other thing is that it also corrupted the 2018 program so I cannot access those files either.

Tried downloading a new 2019 Block program. Overwrote the old one. Still same problem. Loaded the software from the disc. Same problem.

Trying to get through to Block is a joke. You will spend hours on the phone.

Any thoughts?

    Hi, H&R does know the specific file that is causing the issue. And the file is owned by Microsoft. So H&R has no control over the software that Microsoft makes. That is the sad state of affairs.

    It turns out Windows was trying to install an update. It was after the update completed that 2019/2020 stopped working. Apparently every time Windows updates itself, it breaks H&R Block Business again. I waited on hold for an hour-and-a-half to ask H&R what to do? They offered no help, just "I'm sorry you're having these problems. People seem to be having a lot of problems with the Business software." Well, no sh*t, Sherlock! 

    Why can't Microsoft tell us what Windows is doing to cause this?

    Hi DHarris & NV Steve,

    I would place a call to H&R Block at 866-606-3400 and tell them you have been advised to open a ticket with the Tier 2 team.

    You may also want to review my previous posts.  I have moved off H&R now so I am not personally getting this error. Best, -Nick

    Now 2019 and 2020 software won't load at all! I just get the logo and a spinning blue circle. Help!

    Well...Block does it again. On my new Lenovo, which I am using as a Block dedicated computer, I had to reinstall the 2020 program from the previous download. The program successfully loaded, and contained the names of the files that I was working on previously in Jan 2021. The program will allow a rollover of data from 2019 for those same clients that were worked on in 2019 with a rollover of 2019 data to 2020, and shows them as version (1) in the list of returns. Those returns can be opened and worked on as if no 2020 information had been previously entered.

    If however, I click on any of the files that remained in the 2020 program that had data from my work in Jan 2021, when I clicked on any of them to load, before the file would open, I get an error message as follows. This stinks because I cannot access the work that I had saved previously in 2021. I did of course save all work as PDF's which are accessible.

    Any thoughts on this new problem?
