Cumulative updates - October 2020

Hey, so i installed these updates on my laptop, and one of them needed a restart. Post the re-start, i can't sign in. It's stuck on the welcome screen, or i cant have the option to input my password, or it logs in and its stuck on a black screen. From the repair system i tried to fix it, didnt work. I tried to uninstall the latest quality update, didn't work. I've restored the system to a last saved point, even that didn't work. I could log in via safe mode, but upon exiting it, i couldn't login normally. 

I have a windows 10 home, 64 bit, and the problem occurred after installing the cumulative updates. Any help would be appreciated.

Password not accepted after KB4579311 update, having tried the following basics six times:-

Double checked correct PW

Entered PW with Virtual screen keyboard

Check Virtual keyboard was UK setting

Changing PW in safe internet mode

PW reset using USB

All my above attempts failed while using  KB4579311 update.

Returned system to previous operating system prior to KB4579311 update computer accepts my PW and works all OK. Have paused win 10 updates for one month as it appears KB4579311 update is causing the issue.

Having read MRDBeta work around reply post.

KB4579311 is sitting in my Local Disk, Windows, Software Distribution, Download folder. Is it worth me deleting KB4579311 and try to install the patches or through Windows 10 updates again?

OR

Wait for a confirmed work around or update as I need my computer for work and I'm not a computer expert?

I appreciate your response. I ran through the SoftwareDistribution process and subsequently the manual update attempt and neither have resolved the windows update issue.

I'm getting close to performing a fresh install (the second in two months!).

I have modified the DCOM Settings (permissions) and that seems to have resolved that problem, so I'm guessing it was not directly related to the Windows Update issue at this stage.

Any other ideas?

HDMI stopped working after updates

I've tried three different cables and three different monitors.

• Microsoft version and build 2004 19041.572
• Home
• 64 bit
• Installed patches kb4579311; KB4578968; kb4580325, in 2020-10-14
• Reported error messages "no signal"

I had similar problem after the most recent update (Oct 13). My external monitor stopped working. Not recognizing/detected in Display Settings. Tried all usual fixes (reinstalled the monitor adaptor and updated the drivers) and tried two other monitors and adaptors (HDMI and VGA) but nothing worked. By chance, I switched my power cord and external monitor USB-3 connections and now my monitor works (and I still have power). I have a brand new HP Spectre 360, Home, 64 bit (not sure about the patches-just performed the latest Windows update). Very strange! I'm too afraid to switch the ports back now to see what happens! 

A second oddball problem (after the update) is now I have to do a hard reboot every time I restart my computer or my Wifi and network options won't appear in the task bar and I won't have internet connectivity. My external hub also won't work properly if I don't do this-no keybord or mouse.

I tried updating my video drivers using windows update drivers and the manufacturer drivers, but it wasn't effective.

I restored my notebook to Oct 13, removing the 3 updates and it solved the HDMI port problem.

I hope they get another update since the updates from Oct 14 are security updates.
