This is a summary of the cumulative updates released on October 13th for all the supported consumer releases of Windows 10.

IMPORTANT Windows 10, version 1809, will reach end of service on November 10, 2020 for devices running Windows 10 Home, Pro, Pro for Workstation, and IoT Core editions. These devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10.

    Hi all,

    I have been trying to install KB4579311 for several days now. Every time I try to install it, I get the following error code: 0x800f081f

    I am using a custom-built PC that has worked fine for the past 6 years and other updates are able to be installed - just not KB4579311. I am currently on Windows 10 Version 2004 OS Build 19041.508. I am running Windows Home 64-bit. 

    I have looked up this error code and done many different things that MS support has asked me to try, and none of them have worked. I have:

    • Manually installed it from the Microsoft Update Catalog and ran into the same problem
    • Manually installed it after deleting the SoftwareDownload folder under C://Windows and ran into the same problem
    • Used Windows update troubleshooter and it could not even diagnose my issue
    • Used a Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command through command prompt and PowerShell, which got me the following error:

    "Error 582. An illegal character was encountered. For a multi-byte character set this includes a lead byte without a succeeding trail byte. For the Unicode character set this includes the characters 0xFFFF and 0xFFFE

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I just want my Epsom XP-225 to print in Windows 10 now that all 4 cartridges have been replaced

    Luckily I didn't experience any Windows Shell related issues (File Explorer, Taskbar, Start menu and Action Center) after updating. And now that I cleaned my Windows 10 Temporary Files this morning, I think it rarely causes 100% Disk usage in Task Manager every time

    without apparent reason. (In my opinion).

    I got a similar issue. Desktop is black after logon and taskbar flashes, its continiously restarting explorer.exe

    Got this exact issue too. After boot, Explorer restarts itself once or twice every second, for around 4 minutes, flooding Event Viewer with countless copies of the above error, until it finally launches properly.

    Uninstalling the update solves the issue, it's very frustarting.
