I've been having crash issues for months now with no solution. I've been able to narrow it down to a windows issue but no solution seems to be available.

At random points during gaming (COD Warzone) the video card driver stops working and then immediately recovers. I get a black screen for around 5-10 seconds and that causes my game to crash. It is extremely frustrating.

I have done clean installs of Windows 10 64bit, tested with both NVidia and AMD GPU's, various video card drivers (up to 1 year old), and various other checks and setting changes.

I'm hoping that someone can please respond to help me figure out what is causing this issue because it is extremely frustrating.

Hey everyone, 

I have finally fixed this issue fixed on my PC. I'm so damn happy 😅

Changing my input from DisplayPort to HDMI resolved it. This fixes the crashing completely, even with two sticks of memory in dual-channel mode at full speed 3200Mhz.

This got me curious, since I saw that using HDMI limits my refresh rate to 100Hz. So, I switched back to DisplayPort but forced it to run at 120Hz instead of the full 144Hz. This also runs flawlessly with dual-channel memory and IMO confirms that 144Hz (combined with certain memory configurations) is somehow the causing the crashes.

I've ordered a new DisplayPort cable to see if it resolves the issue at 144Hz, but even if it doesn't I'll be happy with 120Hz since the 5600XT rarely gets above 120 FPS in games I play at 1440p anyway!

I hope this helps some of you.

EDIT: Sorry to hear about your new issue Tyler. I am on the latest Window 10 update and AMD drivers (I now have the full AMD Overlay etc installed) and have not run into that problem.

EDIT 2: New DisplayPort cable has the exact same issue at 144Hz. I can live with 120Hz so it's all good and no more crashes :)

    I have had this same problem for 2 years. It's unbelievably frustrating.

    I have tried everything imaginable. I'll try to list everything, none of which has worked.

    Extensive TDR changes, hard reset of windows x3, new graphics card, new psu, new ram, new motherboard, stress testing for cpu, ram, and gpu, old gpu drivers, newest gpu drivers, building the pc outside the case, underclocking gpu, different slot for gpu, high performance power settings in windows.

    A lot of people who have this problem may only see it in one game and try to look for help specific to that game. I have had this crash through 15+ different games. It is not game specific, though the intensity of the game will affect the frequency of the crash (never made it through a full game of warzone, but most other games it's managable but frustrating)

    I am having the same issues with both my RX5700XT and RX580. ANY games would crash within minutes, sometimes up to 30 minutes if it was a low-end game. I have also changed registry, bought a new GPU, PSU, uninstalled/reinstalled windows, full-wiped drives and installed windows, and more. What did help me was uninstalling the AMD High Definition Audio Device. I think it uses the monitor speakers, or at least sends the audio over to the monitor. So as long as you have speakers/headset plugged into the motherboard or soundcard, uninstalling the AMD Audio driver should not affect your sound.

    To uninstall, go to Device Manager --> Sound, video and game controllers. The AMD HD Audio Device will reinstall when you update windows or amd drivers. 

    I do still sometimes get crashes, usually when first setting up a game, or changing settings sometimes. Sometimes when opening another program, like if I was playing without Chrome open and then opening Chrome, it will crash but only sometimes. The crashes have been reduced significantly though, if went from not even being able to leave the title screen without a crash for newer AAA titles to hours of crash free gameplay. I have played AC: Valhalla with chrome and discord open for a 7 hour session and did not experience a crash. I do crash a lot in BO Cold War, but I think that might be a Cold War issue since it is not affecting other games for me.

    Thanks for this fix suggestion. Going to test it out for a week and post again with the results.

    It's interesting that both your 2 gpu's and my 2 gpu's were all RX...though the OP said he tried nvidia gpu's as well and still had the problem.

    There is a lot of chatter about this, but to say it is a Windows issue is speculation. Since It is happening on two different GPUs, the issue is likely with the game engine.     Only issue I have with this is, I play Valorant, Fortnite, Sea of Thieves, and this happens to me as well with ALL those programs. It even shuts down my Streamlabs while I'm in the middle of streaming.
