I've been having crash issues for months now with no solution. I've been able to narrow it down to a windows issue but no solution seems to be available.

At random points during gaming (COD Warzone) the video card driver stops working and then immediately recovers. I get a black screen for around 5-10 seconds and that causes my game to crash. It is extremely frustrating.

I have done clean installs of Windows 10 64bit, tested with both NVidia and AMD GPU's, various video card drivers (up to 1 year old), and various other checks and setting changes.

I'm hoping that someone can please respond to help me figure out what is causing this issue because it is extremely frustrating.

Hey everyone, 

I have finally fixed this issue fixed on my PC. I'm so damn happy 😅

Changing my input from DisplayPort to HDMI resolved it. This fixes the crashing completely, even with two sticks of memory in dual-channel mode at full speed 3200Mhz.

This got me curious, since I saw that using HDMI limits my refresh rate to 100Hz. So, I switched back to DisplayPort but forced it to run at 120Hz instead of the full 144Hz. This also runs flawlessly with dual-channel memory and IMO confirms that 144Hz (combined with certain memory configurations) is somehow the causing the crashes.

I've ordered a new DisplayPort cable to see if it resolves the issue at 144Hz, but even if it doesn't I'll be happy with 120Hz since the 5600XT rarely gets above 120 FPS in games I play at 1440p anyway!

EDIT: Sorry to hear about your new issue Tyler. I am on the latest Window 10 update and AMD drivers (I now have the full AMD Overlay etc installed) and have not run into that problem.

EDIT 2: New DisplayPort cable has the exact same issue at 144Hz. I can live with 120Hz so it's all good and no more crashes :)

    So I am using an ASUS TUF X570 mobo and a Ryzen 7 3700x. If I narrowed down to the USB theory is that the mobo messing up or the processor?

    Back to crashing today. Played for over 2 hours yesterday, today Far Cry 5 crashed within 15 min. The only difference is ambient temperature. Yesterday was a cold day, today is about 15 degrees warmer. Yesterday after playing I looked at HWiNFO and my GPU only reached 45C, today it reached 50C. So it's not even close to it being a thermal issue. I'll try removing xbox game bar completely and see if that helps. My Adrenalin overlays are disabled.

    So the card is going back to ASRock, hopefully they can replace it. But, after achieving a stable system - I went back to my second motherboard (it's got more features) and while I didn't get a black screen, I also began getting intermittent crashes again. So aggravating : (

    Going through the RMA process for the card, it made me aware to look for damage to the circuit boards - burn marks, crusty stuff, etc - signs of overheating. The graphics card was completely clean. But when I looked at that second motherboard, I began to see some of those signs. I also discovered a couple of capacitors that felt loose.

    So I wonder - are all these problems symptoms of the motherboard overheating - the heat causes solder to come loose and create intermittent contacts. I wonder even if the motherboard caused damage to the graphics card? That second motherboard is not brand new - it's an old model - GA-990FXA-UD3 from about 2011 I think. Maybe over time the contacts just come loose and this is what you get.

    I've been using an old gpu for quite some time without issues, but today when playing Payday 2 I've crashed with the same error in Event Viewer as before, with the "driver timeout" message from AMD Software. It may have been just a random crash, but I'll be running Furmark again in the next few days to see if it starts crashing again. Then if it does, I guess I'll have to check other stuff before sending the GPU back to the shop for RMA.
