I've been having crash issues for months now with no solution. I've been able to narrow it down to a windows issue but no solution seems to be available.

At random points during gaming (COD Warzone) the video card driver stops working and then immediately recovers. I get a black screen for around 5-10 seconds and that causes my game to crash. It is extremely frustrating.

I have done clean installs of Windows 10 64bit, tested with both NVidia and AMD GPU's, various video card drivers (up to 1 year old), and various other checks and setting changes.

I'm hoping that someone can please respond to help me figure out what is causing this issue because it is extremely frustrating.

Hey everyone, 

I have finally fixed this issue fixed on my PC. I'm so damn happy 😅

Changing my input from DisplayPort to HDMI resolved it. This fixes the crashing completely, even with two sticks of memory in dual-channel mode at full speed 3200Mhz.

This got me curious, since I saw that using HDMI limits my refresh rate to 100Hz. So, I switched back to DisplayPort but forced it to run at 120Hz instead of the full 144Hz. This also runs flawlessly with dual-channel memory and IMO confirms that 144Hz (combined with certain memory configurations) is somehow the causing the crashes.

I've ordered a new DisplayPort cable to see if it resolves the issue at 144Hz, but even if it doesn't I'll be happy with 120Hz since the 5600XT rarely gets above 120 FPS in games I play at 1440p anyway!

I hope this helps some of you.

EDIT: Sorry to hear about your new issue Tyler. I am on the latest Window 10 update and AMD drivers (I now have the full AMD Overlay etc installed) and have not run into that problem.

EDIT 2: New DisplayPort cable has the exact same issue at 144Hz. I can live with 120Hz so it's all good and no more crashes :)

    Hey there!

    I'm in a brand new notebook Acer Nitro 5 w/ ryzen 5, vega 8 and geforce GTX 1650. Played few games for now (DOTA2, Divinity OS2), but I had the trouble while in Teams too, sharing a presentation. Last Thursday started at 10AM, crashed 10h54, finished 12. Back again 2PM, crashed twice (2h30 and 3h32) finished 4.

    Checking in Event Viewer, it was a Security event ID 4624 (logon), ID 4672 (special logon), THEN System event ID 4101 (video driver amdkmdag stopped responding and successfully recovered [roughly translated from Brazilian Portuguese]) followed by ID 267 (touch keybord/hardware quality control successfull verification), twice ID 10016 (unauthorized application to COM server with CLSID, Application event ID 9027 (desktop window manager), ID 1000 (error on C:\Program Files\AMD\CNext\CNext\Radeonsoftware.exe; *full log at the end).

    The most annoying detail is that after video and apps recovery, I'm disconnected from Team's call.

    HI Gregg,

    I also wanted to share that i am having similar issues as well. My PC is brand new, i built it 8 weeks ago and I noticed that we share the same graphics card. I have the Radeon 5600 XT Red Dragon and after about a month I would get random crashes. I have tried everything under the sun to figure it out to no avail. 

    Event viewer states Kernel Power problems, Video TDR failure, and I too get warnings about display driver amdkmdag stopped working. I have run programs like Heaven Benchmarking, windows memory diagnostics tool, prime95 (for 13 hours), reseated my GPU, RAM, reinstalled everything multiple times, checked temperatures on all components and checked that everything is plugged in the way it should be. Everything is fine based on these tests, I don't know what to do anymore. Sometimes my computer crashes a few times a day, sometimes it crashes once a week. 

    You're not alone, thats for sure. I sure hope we get to the bottom of this soon

    Just wanted to let you know you're not alone Greg, im having the same problems.

    Running Vega 64 1000W PSU

    black screen and frozen audio, driver crashes with same error code in the event log.

    Hope we figure this out

    only different in my case is that when i try to use a nvidea 980 i have no issues
