I've been having crash issues for months now with no solution. I've been able to narrow it down to a windows issue but no solution seems to be available.

At random points during gaming (COD Warzone) the video card driver stops working and then immediately recovers. I get a black screen for around 5-10 seconds and that causes my game to crash. It is extremely frustrating.

I have done clean installs of Windows 10 64bit, tested with both NVidia and AMD GPU's, various video card drivers (up to 1 year old), and various other checks and setting changes.

I'm hoping that someone can please respond to help me figure out what is causing this issue because it is extremely frustrating.

Hey everyone, 

I have finally fixed this issue fixed on my PC. I'm so damn happy 😅

Changing my input from DisplayPort to HDMI resolved it. This fixes the crashing completely, even with two sticks of memory in dual-channel mode at full speed 3200Mhz.

This got me curious, since I saw that using HDMI limits my refresh rate to 100Hz. So, I switched back to DisplayPort but forced it to run at 120Hz instead of the full 144Hz. This also runs flawlessly with dual-channel memory and IMO confirms that 144Hz (combined with certain memory configurations) is somehow the causing the crashes.

I've ordered a new DisplayPort cable to see if it resolves the issue at 144Hz, but even if it doesn't I'll be happy with 120Hz since the 5600XT rarely gets above 120 FPS in games I play at 1440p anyway!

EDIT: Sorry to hear about your new issue Tyler. I am on the latest Window 10 update and AMD drivers (I now have the full AMD Overlay etc installed) and have not run into that problem.

EDIT 2: New DisplayPort cable has the exact same issue at 144Hz. I can live with 120Hz so it's all good and no more crashes :)

    Hey everyone!

    I have installed my new RTX 3080

    Well I have a "great" and a bad news... You don't have to contact AMD about the problem.

    I plugged 2 of my USB accessories back with my new card and I just crashed.

    I was running Overwatch at around 180 fps on Epic settings, GPU still cool, and it crashed.

    So the problem is definitely not on AMD, it happens for Nvidia users as well

    Had the following:

    An Error: "The activation of the CLSID {DDCFD26B-FEED-44CD-B71D-79487D2E5E5A} timed out waiting for the service dps to stop."

    And a Warning: "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

    I can now safely say I'm 99% certain it's linked to USB accessories.

    Which one, I don't even know if it matters, I think it's linked to the position or the number of USB gadgets plugged in.

    I'll remove one to see if it crashes and I'll keep you updated.

    I removed my Keyboard's usb extra port, and plugged my RGB mousepad next to my headset (next to Ethernet port), another crash.

    I'll try again with it plugged elsewhere.

    Well that didn't take long: another CTD, followed by a full Windows freeze, and computer wasn't rebooting clean after, had to completely cut the power supply's current and wait a bit to reboot...

    I'll now try with my headset on the front panel and the mousepad elsewhere..

    I have my headset plugged in the front panel, mousepad in some rear ports, and so far over an hour without any crash.

    Tomorrow I might try to interchange both ports to see if it's just a position thing, or if the headset is linked to the trouble when plugged behind.

    I would be very thankful if people who identified their problems as connected to USB ports could reply to my thread on AMD forums. Maybe if more people talk about this issue we will get a better response than "ummm please DDU or reinstall windows although you said you already did that!"

    I guess we should hit up AMD forums. I unplugged my x360 controller from the front panel USB and i ran Rocket League no problem.

    After plugging my flight stick  and headset back into the "USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports (AMD® CPU)" I get Driver Timeout in Flight Simulator after 15-30 minutes. Apex Legends doesn't crash though.
