How will I get the Invoke firmware update in 01.2021 if I can't set it up to connect to the internet?

I had to hard reset my Invoke back in December or January. It's been sitting around like a neglected child because neither Cortana on my android phone nor my PC have been able to get it connected to finish setup. The apps just don't find the Invoke.

I'd like to use it as a Bluetooth speaker as Microsoft has been saying could happen. And I saw on H-K's website that the speaker is going to have to be connected to receive the firmware update when it comes out. I'd sure like to solve the connectivity problem before the update is released so that it's ready.

It seems a myriad of people have had trouble with their Invokes beginning about a year ago; presumably because of Cortana's focus shifting from consumer to back-end. And I do appreciate the rebate. But this is a perfectly good, amazing-sounding speaker that I'd like to continue to use. Otherwise it's unfortunately e-waste. Is there a real solution out there?

    26-May-2021:

I've been working abroad for around 2 years, so I left my Invoke behind. I was in shock to find Cortana wasn't working anymore, obviously i have a different wifi now. I naively pressed the mute second for 5 seconds to restart the wifi set up. Which basically made my Invoke useless... To recover at least the BT I did the next:

    1. Install the Cortana version 3.2 https://cortana.uptodown.com/android/descargar/1926208
    2. Press the little reset button with a clip for 5 seconds
    3. Set up your Harman through Cortana app (follow the steps and add your wifi password). You'll see it does connect and it tells you it will update. Wait around 5-10 minutes. Click the finish button and it will seem like your Invoke is dead.
    4. Once updated, your Invoke should stop talking (farewell Cortana :( ). Press the BT button and you should be able to connect. That's it.

I hope this post helps someone (because i did lose around 2 hours).

    Nice day everyone :)

If you were able to connect one of them that means you’re probably doing it the right way. So the problem could be in the wifi connectivity of the second device. Try doing a hard reset on it, using a small pin to insert in the small hole beside the mic button.

I have the same situation that I can no longer connect to my speaker, so the question is can the firmware update be downloaded and uploaded via usb via the connector on the underside of the speaker

Good question. I thought of the same but unfortunately Microsoft doesnt have that option to be able to download and manually update the firmware using usb connection. Cortana app wasn’t available to me on windows 10, apple or android app store. Try using an older android phone, google cortana apk old version, and find and download version 3.2. Then run and install the app. You should see an option to add device and connect.

    Hope this helps.

I'm on 2004. My computer and my phone connect to my WiFi just fine. But the Cortana app does not find my Invoke while trying to set it up. Again, I hard-reset the Invoke, so it doesn't know my WiFi credentials; that's part of setup that comes after the app finds the Invoke. Which isn't happening.

Have you gone Settings, Network & Internet and did the Troubleshoot?

What OS build are you on?  Hit the Windows key, type winver, hit Enter.

    Or Windows key+r, winver, OK
