Have tried so many resets I am surprised the hard drive is no knackered. Clean boots, disabling drivers, changing system configuration to hide all microsoft services and disabling non microsoft all fail with the same error.

I have tried all the things you are told to do by microsoft in their pages and still get the same error. Lenovo wipe their feet and say its beyond their support when asked. Nothing I have been told by any representative here has worked. The only thing I have yet to try is a clean install of windows 10!

The computer is as follows:

Lenovo Ideacentre 310s-08asr amd a9-9245 radeon r5 compute cores 2c+3G

8Gb Memory

860Gb free on hard drive

Razer Chroma keyboard

Windows Defender used no 3rd party

Have been told it is the mcafee boot protection but mcafee has been removed after every windows reinstallation, the mcafee removal tool three times.

The previous update via media creation too i tried update and that failed but gave no error code.

This time i tried the iso file and update and yet again it failed but this time i get error 0xc1900101-0x20017

When i use windows update i just get error 0xc1900101 and nothing else.

In the past i have disabled all non microsoft services and i have also disabled display adapters; Printers, sound, video and game controllers and did a restart and that failed also.

I have tried everything the advisers have said and that failed everytime.

Still no response from lenovo support, but put two posts in their community one regarding the update issue and 0xc1900101 and there has been one response by someone having the same problem. There is a BIOS update on the support site but like me they are reluctant to do it, knowig the problems you get if you screw up in BIOS.

Dear Graham,I believe that updating the Bios is not the problem, but the security tools used on the Laptop.

I hope you can solve this problem.

    Have a great weekend.

    See you!

This is not a laptop, it is a desktop PC. After resetting the computer back using recovery the preinstalled version of McAfee is restored, but that is uninstalled before anything else is done via the apps in settings. A full version of McAfee was later installed but that was uninstalled before the first attempt to carry out the 2004 update installation. Everytime I have since restored via recovery the computer by either using recovery options in setttings or using the recovery drive, the version of McAfee is always uninstalled immediately before anything else is done.

I have also run the Macfee MCPR removal tool twice since and shows that it has worked successfully. However, the computer still does not install the new version of windows.

Lenovo reply basically they do not know and want me to send the computer to them but I will have to pay £30 up front first. Then any parts and I assume service time minus the original £30 will be charged to repair if that is needed the computer.

The problem is when I have recovered the computer to factory setting using the USB recovery drive I created, the computer restores to what it was. Then with USB a first in boot sequence priority, the computer when it has finished recovering from the USB. Then boots from the USB and wants to go through the recovery process again. Just like it would if I were to clean install windows and not remove the USB.

Dear Graham, these security tools are preventing the boot from the pen drive, I understand that the best solution would be to send it to the technical assistance.

Have a great weekend, see you!
