Have tried so many resets I am surprised the hard drive is no knackered. Clean boots, disabling drivers, changing system configuration to hide all microsoft services and disabling non microsoft all fail with the same error.

I have tried all the things you are told to do by microsoft in their pages and still get the same error. Lenovo wipe their feet and say its beyond their support when asked. Nothing I have been told by any representative here has worked. The only thing I have yet to try is a clean install of windows 10!

The computer is as follows:

Lenovo Ideacentre 310s-08asr amd a9-9245 radeon r5 compute cores 2c+3G

8Gb Memory

860Gb free on hard drive

Razer Chroma keyboard

Windows Defender used no 3rd party

Have been told it is the mcafee boot protection but mcafee has been removed after every windows reinstallation, the mcafee removal tool three times.

The previous update via media creation too i tried update and that failed but gave no error code.

This time i tried the iso file and update and yet again it failed but this time i get error 0xc1900101-0x20017

When i use windows update i just get error 0xc1900101 and nothing else.

In the past i have disabled all non microsoft services and i have also disabled display adapters; Printers, sound, video and game controllers and did a restart and that failed also.

I have tried everything the advisers have said and that failed everytime.

Dear Graham,it would be interesting to contact Lenovo support and ask how to boot from the flash drive and install a new operating system on this model of notebook and after informing the procedure to boot from the flash drive, come back here again and continue with the procedures.

I hope I helped, even more!

There is something in the security tab I am not sure about though, what does this do and could it be part of the problem?

TCG security device - firmware TPM

    security chip 2.0

    clear TCG security feature

Dear Graham,it may be that even if you are blocking the boot from the flash drive.

TPM technology was developed to provide hardware-based security-related functions. A TPM chip is a secure encryption processor designed to perform encryption operations. The chip includes several physical security mechanisms to make it resistant to tampering with TPM security functions by malicious software. Some of the main advantages of using TPM technology are the possibility of:

Generate, store and limit the use of encryption keys.

Use TPM technology for platform device authentication with the TPM's unique self-recording RSA key.

Help ensure the integrity of the platform by executing and storing security measures.

The most common functions of the TPM are for measuring system health and using and creating keys. During the process of booting a system, the boot code that is loaded (including firmware and operating system components) can be measured and written to the TPM. Integrity measures can be used as proof of how a system was started and as a guarantee that a TPM-based key was only used with the correct software to boot the system.

TPM-based keys can be configured in several ways. One option is to make a TPM-based key unavailable outside of the TPM. This is good for reducing phishing attacks because it prevents the key from being copied and used without the TPM. TPM-based keys can also be configured to require a usage authorization value. If too many incorrect authorization attempts occur, the TPM will activate its dictionary attack logic and prevent further attempts at authorization value.

I hope Lenovo can assist you with the boot.

    Have a good night.

    See you!
