Update 20H2 won't install

Hello!

I noticed my pc needed to update, and clicked update and restart (for whatever reason, update and shutdown wasn't an option, just sleep, shutdown, or update and restart). Part of the way through the update my computer blue screened and restarted. After this, it rolled back what it had installed. When I got back into windows, update 20H2 had not installed, and I noticed that another update, KB4580980, was needed. When I attempted to install, it ran into errors. I restarted my computer, and attempted to install again, and this time despite not showing any errors, after restarting as requested, no update was applied, though update KB4580980 had installed. This time I tried to uninstall any updates I'd made today, but could only remove KB4580980. After restarting, it still won't update, and now KB4580980 won't install either.

I don't want to do any formats to my computer, because re-installing all my apps is annoying, and if a reset that doesn't delete my files doesn't work then I'll have to buy an external hard-drive to backup my data and do a complete format, which I'd also like to avoid.

Anyone have any idea what to do? Thanks for your help.

Try updating to version 20H2 using the Media Creation tool and if it fails let us know.

The fastest way to get the upgrade is through the Media creation tool or ISO file.

Please download Media Creation Tool from the link below and select Upgrade this PC at the first screen.

    I have tried every step available in community , even downloaded media creation tool and windows got installed and then it said working on updates and after 48% it said cannot insall updates on this computer hardware , i literally factory reset my laptop and then went for media creation tool . All drivers are upto date 

    System configuration :-8gb/1TB i5 6..u /2gb graphics

    Just to clarify, I do not use any antivirus except Windows Defender for this vary reason.  Anything else fouls up your computer because it does not play well with Microsoft.  I figured it out finally by studying the failed update occurrences and tracing it to a specific one.  I then attempted to do the media creation tool for the August 2020 update that failed and somehow my computer is now updated to the latest 20H2 update, which is what I was trying to accomplish.  Dumb luck, probably.

    Did you go to the Norton site and get the Norton software?  If not you did not get the removal of the code that causes the problems.

    I deleted Norton, used disk cleanup and tried to reinstall. It crashed at 3% installation. 

    Any other suggestions?
