IMPORTANT

Windows 10, version 1809, will reach end of service on November 10, 2020 for devices running Windows 10 Home, Pro, Pro for Workstation, and IoT Core editions. These devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10.

IMPORTANT

Windows 10, version 1903 will reach end of servicing on December 8, 2020. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends that you update to the latest version of Windows 10. If you want to update to Windows 10, version 1909, you must use the Enablement Package KB4517245 (EKB). Using the EKB makes updating faster and easier and requires a single restart. For more information, see Windows 10, version 1909 delivery options.

Unclear if this is the cause, but I turned on my PC 4 hours ago and then left in unattended to 3 hours (these are normally working hours and I do not have updates set to run at these hours.  I returned an hour ago to a message on the screen saying Updating your system (100%) with the little dots circling above the line. This has not changed for an hour and there is no disk activity.

Has the update broken my system and what are my options?

Please help me return my avatar in settings banner. It disappeared.

This happened to me once - before the windows update! Is this the ONLY location your avatar is missing?

I know this seems TOO EASY-- and it may be considering all that MS screwed up BUT

    Have you tried:

    1. Click on the Start menu.
    2. Go to the Settings app on your desktop.
    3. Click on Account.
    4. Scroll down to Create your picture.
    5. Either click on Camera to take a photo using the webcam or click on Browse for one to chose from your existing photos.
    6. Locate the picture and select it.

HOPE this works with the new version.

I have a feeling you've tried that and it failed. I'd be curious to know before I update once again. Thanks.

Perhaps someone else here has a better answer for you.

After installing KB4586781 and rebooting the computer Windows fails to start citing the error:

"The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified"

    Error 0xc0000428

"You'll need to use recovery tools..."

The only option at this point is to system restore to before the update is installed as startup repair fails and the recovery option to remove the latest windows update also fails. Unfortunately, the only restore point available is the one automatically created by windows, which leaves me in a state where the update has already been installed and is pending restart - any restart of the computer at this point bricks the computer again.

    This updated is broken.

Since putting on the update my computer no longer recognizes the head phone jack. When are you going to fix this.

    Windows 10 pro.

    Already updated drives

    Check privacy settings.

    Nothing works.

I had a similar problem with my Apple earbuds after a Windows update this summer.  After hours of troubleshooting with Microsoft and the maker of my laptop, they still don t work.  Really dissappointed in Microsoft!
