Bluetooth mouse freezes intermittently since the May Windows 10 (ver. 2004) update

Ever since this update my Bluetooth mouse continues to freeze for a few seconds intermittently. I own a Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Mouse and

Microsoft Modern Bluetooth Mouse and the problem exists with both. Tried a Logitech Pebble and again, the same issue. I've tried the troubleshooter

  • it solves nothing. Tried to update drivers - nothing. Restarting Bluetooth - doesn't work.

No matter what attempts to resolve this problem I have discovered, they have all failed.

Can someone help me with this?

This is a summary of the Potential solutions I found in this thread. I am not sure which one would work the best or work at all:

DISABLE BLUETOOTH POWER SAVE

Press Windows + X and select Device Manager

There you will find the Bluetooth adapter

Right click the adapter and select Properties

Uncheck "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"

Click Ok

MOUSE REGISTRY HACK

Add the following keys at this location: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_8087&PID_0026\5&2816b067&0&10\Device Parameters

"DeviceSelectiveSuspended"=dword:00000000

"SelectiveSuspendEnabled"=dword:00000000

"SelectiveSuspendSupported"=dword:00000000

ENABLE MOUSE POINTER TRAILS

Go to Settings > Mouse

Click "Additional Mouse Options"

Click the "Pointer Options" tab in the resulting dialog box

Check the "Display Pointer Trails" box, you may also want to set the slider to short

Click Ok

DISABLE ENHANCE POINTER PRECISION

Go to Settings > Mouse.

Click the "Additional Mouse Options" option

Click the "Pointer Options" tab in the resulting dialog box

Uncheck the "Enhance pointer precision" box

Click Ok

SCREEN & SLEEP OPTIONS

Press Windows + X and select Power Options

Set the power option to NEVER for screen and sleep

    Hi folks,

    I tried the disable power save - didn't work.

    I did the registry hack, it worked, but it also hosed functionality with apple airpods, so I undid it.

    I did not try disable mouse pointer trails.

    I did try disabling the enhanced pointer precision - and this DID make a huge difference. The problem did not completely disappear, but it improved sufficiently enough that it made using a bluetooth mouse connection possible.

    I've had my screen and sleep on "never" for some time, and I don't think that helped.

    I'll add that since disabling the enhanced pointer precision, the problem silently disappeared completely. I now have no lag or stops/starts to speak of across three bluetooth human interface devices (two kinds of mice, and a keyboard - all variations of Logitech's MX line). I'm on a Thinkpad X1 Gen 9/Intel, windows 10 with all updates. It could be some update in the past fixed this issue.

    Folks,

    While I'm loathe to do registry hacks, this problem was serious enough that I elected to try this one. I can confirm it completely cured the problem for me. I now have a very responsive, snappy BT connection.

    I just saw the post about a recent windows update possibly fixing this (KB5003173). I'm up to date as of today, and didn't see this in my update history. If I was updated with this, it did not impact the problem. Otherwise if I have yet to get this update, I may un-hack my registry and see if this update works - as its always obviously better to go the route of an official solution before hacking the registry.

    Same issue here with Logitech MX3. I'm waiting for the final fix before I will upgrade to version 2004. Can't believe Microsoft is doing nothing about it for sooooooooo long.

    Hi I don't know if this will help but I had this problem on a customers computer repair I was doing and he had the same issue using his Logitech Pebble. its not a fix but when I turned on display pointer trails under Mouse Settings -> Advanced Mouse Options -> Pointer Options it stops the freezing. I have to leave the trail ON in order for it to work but I came across this and wanted to share

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you. It works for now.

    Furstrating as my 'expensive' MS Modern Mouse with brand new 2021 Lenovo i7 PC is rendered frozen routinely by the this BT hang problem.

    Either momentarily hanging or outright suspended & forces a reboot of the PC.
