Only while plugged in, the Laptop screen(goes black) doesn't respond after idle screen timeout.

Hello there,

I've been facing this issue since 2 years now, seems like a simple problem but mine is really weird, I didn't get any query regarding my issue hence I decided to post it myself. Please read my post completely and please help me resolve this issue.

When I leave the laptop (HP Pavilion 15-cc1xx, win 10 64 bit, Intel core i5-8250U) idle, the screen turns off to save power & doesn't respond to any inputs even external connected USB mouse light turns off (I saw that when this happens the HDD LED turns off I suppose the HDD is not waking). After screen turn off it is suppose to go to sleep but the power LED and fans are continuously on until I hard reboot using power button.

Here is the weird part--- This only happens if my laptop is plugged in and doesn't occur while on battery. The power options screen is shared below

I've tried doing almost all troubleshooting like updating drivers, BIOS, and sfc scan and also reset but all in vain.

Sometimes, this also happens when I put it to sleep, but this sleep issue occurs very rarely cannot predict when it happens I've to hold my breath when I press sleep and wait until the power LED starts blinking for confirmation or else I've to again hard reboot only to loose unsaved data. Although this sleep issue happens very very rarely.

I think the issue is only with HDD since the HDD LED stops blinking when this happens ***.***When it is blinking then I'm sure that the screen will turn on as I've seen it for myself many times.

upload the dump files, will see if Elan driver is completely uninstalled.

Regarding the elan drivers, I did It, exactly as the site said from step 4, but the problem still persists.

After that failed, one more thing I tried to do in the same way is uninstalled intel MEI but it installs again even though the auto install option "no" is ticked. I still strongly believe that it is Intel MEI issue even Robin(independent advisor here) in previous replies told that. What do you have to say about it?

When you get there start at step 4 to uninstall completely your driver.

Is it really safe? because that method says to install the latest version not downgrade, and above that this is of Asus laptops and I have HP just to do a check I've seen there is no such folder as winflash in the file directory specified in that page and they said this winflash is preloaded but in mine it's not. As HP's community employee told me that if there are any security improvements to BIOS update then the BIOS downgrade is not possible and I've seen the change log of my current BIOS update file and it showed "Security improvements" only, that's why I've lost all hopes of this getting fixed until HP release another BIOS update and if that update didn't fix this I'll sell my laptop.

Open minidump folder c:\windows\minidump\ then delete all the files then wait to get a new file and send it on your onedrive.

Can you use this method "It Worked" to downgrade your bios when you get there find "it worked" the second last message.
