How do i get rid of the yesterday, today stuff in folders

I know this question has been answered before but for some reason some my folders keep going back to the Today, Yesterday etc. format and i like to use large icons and some of my folders are defaulting back to the Details format, they won't stay at what i set them at. is there some way to permanently stop Windows use of this type of folder setup, i'm fed up with having to adjust each and every folder only to have Windows ignore my settings.

Hi, I’m Nicole, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

Try this procedure

Open File Explorer.

Click on the "View" tab in the ribbon menu.

Click on the "Group by" dropdown menu.

Select "None" from the options.

This should disable the grouping of files and folders by date. If you want to apply this setting to all folders, follow these steps:

Open File Explorer.

Click on the "View" tab in the ribbon menu.

Click on "Options" in the right-hand corner of the ribbon.

In the "Folder Options" window that appears, click on the "View" tab.

Scroll down and click on "Apply to Folders" button.

Click "Yes" when prompted to confirm.

This should apply the "None" grouping option to all folders. However, keep in mind that some folders may still have their own unique view settings, which could cause them to display differently. If this happens, you may need to adjust the view settings for those folders individually.

    Found it under sort and it seems to be working! Yay!!

    However, it's still doing it in downloads popup window. And there is no option there. Organize doesn't have it in the list, and Options does not have it. There is only Layout which doesn't have a lot of options and in Properties I'm not finding it.

    Ideas for the second stage of this?

    Right-click in the white-space of the dialog to get the sort and group options.

    Maybe you're looking at a file open/save dialog? If so, right-click in the white space of that dialog and you should get View, Sort by, and Group by options. If that's not it, post a screenshot of what you're looking at.

    The "answer" is written for Windows 10 and apparently helped the OP enough that it was marked as correct. The IA that posted it seems to be oblivious to the trouble that the incorrect information is causing and the moderators will not unmark an incorrect answer unless it poses a risk to life (or something like that).

    As stated in the other replies, on Windows 11, "Group by" is under "Sort" in an Explorer window.

    For Open/Save dialogs, "Group by" is accessed by clicking on the white space (i.e. background) of the folder.

    You can also use WinSetView to set all your default views globally, including turning off grouping everywhere.
