How to disable efficiency mode in task manager? Windows efficiency mode is making apps like Google Chrome unusable.

![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/e8c660f6-34c2-4550-a3a6-0c856ae2def3?platform=QnASince yesterday (28 March) Google chrome is unusable. Task manager on my windows desktop  says that efficiency mode is active for several but not all sub-processes of google chrome and I believe that is the reason for the drop in performance.

I am able to disable efficiency mode for each individual sub-process, but *it returns a few minutes later. I cannot permanently disable it.*Simple actions such as changing a tab or moving the window causes it to freeze for several minutes.

  • I have no recent or current updates to install. Everything is up to date.- There are no other demanding processes / apps running on my pc- I have tried altering Chrome's performance and memory settings. Nothing changed.- This problem is the same with Edge and some other applications.- Efficiency mode is greyed out for the entire application. Only certain sub-processes of chrome are in efficiency mode.

The only difference between yesterday and today, is that efficiency mode is active non-stop.

I do not want efficiency mode running at all for google chrome as it is the main browser I use for work and school.

it's insane how they shame us over power and efficiency mode.. etc etc
WHILE win11 has dozens of processes and telemetry running multiple times a minute sending data to MS.

@ MICROSOFT : LET US TURN THIS **** OFF. STOP SHAMING US OVER POWER WHEN YOU USE OUR SYSTEMS TO BENEFIT YOUR BUSINESS AND YOU RUN DOZENS OF PROCESSES WE DON'T F_CKING NEED!
EXAMPLE: WHY IS OFFICE CLICK TO RUN STILL A THING ? It's not 2008. YUO WASTE MORE POWER FORCING THAT **** TO RUN WHEN NOT ONE PERSON NEEDS IT!

So I upgraded to an SSD, upped my RAM and now this shambles sets all of my browsers to "low" priority. This is a disgrace; I am an online teacher, making doing my job impossible. I have many windows open at once, and going into each process and changing its priority is not a credible solution. Microsoft, pull your finger out. Would Tesla send out a fix for their cars which set the maximum speed to 20mph. In effect, this is what you have done to my computer. With all that money to increase its speed, with one wave of the 'update wand' I've returned to the speed of Windows 98.

I don't have the extension, 128gig ram, 24 cores - and I can barely ruin 5 tabs without Chrome freezing constantly. FIX THIS BS MICROSOFT. Really missing my mac now...
