This worked for me - Automatically activates efficiency mode - Microsoft Community Please disable these applications first Right-click on the desired application and click on the “ Properties ” option. In the “ Target ” field of the “ Shortcuts ” tab, type the following at the end, noting that it begins with a space --disable-features=UseEcoQoSForBackgroundProcess Click the “ Apply ” button and select OK. You may be prompted that you need administrator privileges, just click “ Continue ”. After that, open the application via a shortcut and take a look.

It would seem to me that this efficiency thing/idea has to do mainly with saving battery power. That is fine for devices with a battery, but, my gamer tower PC does not have a battery and the system is powerful enough to run everything I want to at the same time. So, simply, why doesn't Windows have the simple setting of "does this device run on a battery: Yes/No?". Why is that so difficult? BTW, the about:config setting in Firefox from a June 5, 2023 post does seem to turn off Firefox using efficiency mode. And, the command line parameter for the launching of the Chrome browser does seem to work as well. I use Opera as my secondary browser and it is using efficiency mode. Curious that I have not seen any posts on this thread referencing Opera. Also, I did not notice this problem until I updated to Windows 23H2 from 21H2 a week or so ago.

There is only one problem with your theory. Microsoft does not care if the computer does not have a battery even if we are using Edge. It still operates Edge in Efficiency mode even if the switch for it is turned to OFF. And as a Windows Insider I can tell you I am not the only one who is pissed off about Microsoft giving us updates that we do not need while ignoring the builder community and gaming community. I'm having this same issue!! I'm on a desktop as well so I have no reason to have an efficiency mode, unless that efficiency mode was only active while I was tabbed out. My running theory for why this is happening and why its only happening to chrome is because microsoft is trying to turn people away from chrome and towards edge. Which is really not a very good look for the company. I don't know why we aren't able to just turn off efficiency mode on the main google chrome box in task manager instead of having to turn it off on every sub-process. Ridiculous. There better be a fix for this soon because this is unacceptable.
