How to disable efficiency mode in task manager? Windows efficiency mode is making apps like Google Chrome unusable.

![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/e8c660f6-34c2-4550-a3a6-0c856ae2def3?platform=QnASince yesterday (28 March) Google chrome is unusable. Task manager on my windows desktop  says that efficiency mode is active for several but not all sub-processes of google chrome and I believe that is the reason for the drop in performance.

I am able to disable efficiency mode for each individual sub-process, but *it returns a few minutes later. I cannot permanently disable it.*Simple actions such as changing a tab or moving the window causes it to freeze for several minutes.

  • I have no recent or current updates to install. Everything is up to date.- There are no other demanding processes / apps running on my pc- I have tried altering Chrome's performance and memory settings. Nothing changed.- This problem is the same with Edge and some other applications.- Efficiency mode is greyed out for the entire application. Only certain sub-processes of chrome are in efficiency mode.

The only difference between yesterday and today, is that efficiency mode is active non-stop.

I do not want efficiency mode running at all for google chrome as it is the main browser I use for work and school.

This is the only reply that actually worked for me!!!

    Here is the English translation:

Disabling Windows 11 Efficiency Mode using Registry Editor is possible, but keep in mind that modifying the Registry can affect the operation of the system if not done correctly. Make sure you follow these steps carefully:

    1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type regedit and press Enter to open Registry Editor.
    3. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:
    4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\5d76a2ca-e8c0-402f-a133-2158492d58ad
    5. In the right panel, look for the entry called Attributes.
    6. Double-click Attributes to modify its value.
    7. Change the value of Attributes from 1 to 2 and click "OK".
    8. Close Registry Editor.

These steps should disable Efficiency Mode in Windows 11. If you want to revert it, simply change the Attributes value back to 1. Always remember to back up the Registry before making changes, in case you need to restore it in case of any problem.

    ** I am not a technician **

Using AI and checking on internet i did this and worked. It worked on my pc, i dont know if it will work on yours.

    Do your research before.-

    I'm having this same issue!!

I'm on a desktop as well so I have no reason to have an efficiency mode, unless that efficiency mode was only active while I was tabbed out.

My running theory for why this is happening and why its only happening to chrome is because microsoft is trying to turn people away from chrome and towards edge. Which is really not a very good look for the company.

I don't know why we aren't able to just turn off efficiency mode on the main google chrome box in task manager instead of having to turn it off on every sub-process.

    Ridiculous.

There better be a fix for this soon because this is unacceptable.

I'm not sure about that. I am having the same issue with both Chrome and Edge. Teams as well.

Whatever genius came up with this buggy **** needs to find another career.
