How to disable efficiency mode in task manager? Windows efficiency mode is making apps like Google Chrome unusable.

 Google chrome is unusable. Task manager on my windows desktop  says that efficiency mode is active for several but not all sub-processes of google chrome and I believe that is the reason for the drop in performance.

I am able to disable efficiency mode for each individual sub-process, but *it returns a few minutes later. I cannot permanently disable it.*Simple actions such as changing a tab or moving the window causes it to freeze for several minutes. 

• I have no recent or current updates to install. Everything is up to date.- There are no other demanding processes / apps running on my pc- I have tried altering Chrome's performance and memory settings. Nothing changed.- This problem is the same with Edge and some other applications.- Efficiency mode is greyed out for the entire application. Only certain sub-processes of chrome are in efficiency mode.

The only difference between yesterday and today, is that efficiency mode is active non-stop.

I do not want efficiency mode running at all for google chrome as it is the main browser I use for work and school.

I did some searching since I was having this issue when opening multiple streams. I came across the following steps:

How to permanently disable efficiency mode for Google Chrome in Task Manager on Windows

1. Close Chrome if it’s already open
2. Right-click on the Chrome shortcut on the desktop
3. Select “Properties”
4. In the Target field, after Chrome.exe” give space and add the following command--disable-features=UseEcoQoSForBackgroundProcess
5. Click “Apply” and then “OK”
6. When prompted for administrator permission, click “Continue”

When I saved and applied I readded the shortcut into my taskbar and Chrome was no longer in efficiency mode. Hope this helps for you!

Someone else said it had to do with the McAfee WebAdvisor extension https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/209111340/chrome-has-been-slow-and-unstable-since-03-2023?hl=en

I turned the extension off and my Chrome works fine now!

I have the same issue. I am in IT 35 years ago and I can say that this is the first issue I can't solve 2-3 months ago. And this is my own new PC, 13900k with DDR5. I have a damn fast PC and all the damn browsers crash the tabs in every minute. I tested with different browsers (Chrome, Norton, Edge, Brave) and tried about 100 different way and same sh.t. I want to turn off that stupid efficiency mode and can't, even if I turn off every energy saving option everywhere still put in efficiency mode. Microsoft, you could do better....

Can confirm that efficiency mode bug happens on Edge too, not just Chrome in my case.... although I only feel the lagginess when using resource-intensive websites

Only Brave Browser doesn't get cursed with Efficiency Mode bug... I wonder why. Please fix this bug Microsoft!
