How to disable efficiency mode in task manager? Windows efficiency mode is making apps like Google Chrome unusable.

Task manager on my windows desktop  says that efficiency mode is active for several but not all sub-processes of google chrome and I believe that is the reason for the drop in performance.

I am able to disable efficiency mode for each individual sub-process, but *it returns a few minutes later. I cannot permanently disable it.*Simple actions such as changing a tab or moving the window causes it to freeze for several minutes. 

  • I have no recent or current updates to install. Everything is up to date.- There are no other demanding processes / apps running on my pc- I have tried altering Chrome's performance and memory settings. Nothing changed.- This problem is the same with Edge and some other applications.- Efficiency mode is greyed out for the entire application. Only certain sub-processes of chrome are in efficiency mode.

The only difference between yesterday and today, is that efficiency mode is active non-stop.

I do not want efficiency mode running at all for google chrome as it is the main browser I use for work and school.

    I really regret updating Windows 11 to version 23H2.

    I also had the same problem, previously I was using version 22H2 and there was no problem like this.

    Once done, go ahead and right-click on the Google Chrome shortcut on your desktop.

Click on the Properties option.

From the Target field, please type the following command after Chrome.exe.

--disable-features=UseEcoQoSForBackgroundProcess
Next, click on the Apply button, then select OK.

You will be prompted to give permission, so click on Continue to confirm.

Go ahead and launch Chrome using the same shortcut.

Type chrome://version in the address bar then hit Enter.

Doing this will verify if the command line flag has been appended.

Finally, check to see if the Chrome web browser is performing better than before.

    I get a message saying this name is invalid or something like that upon following these instructions. Perhaps it has been too long since you posted this information and it no longer works.

    Opera is the only browser I can use now. Everything else has become unusable

    This is why Opera was the second browser I wanted to install on my Windows 11 ineligible's Linux this morning. Ran into a snag installing it but I am sure there is a list of prerequisites for Linux distros somewhere. I just wanted to get back to using my desktop since it is my main gaming rig.
